I've swabbed it in an iodine solution, cut back the hair and wrapped with guaze and tape. What next? It's Sunday, vets are closed. Do you think I should have it stitched???

It sounds like you've done a great job so far. Call your vet on Monday and tell them exactly what you've said here. They'll let you know wheter you should come in or not. Dogs' pads heal fairly quickly and well. Just keep it wrapped so it doesn't get dirty and become infected.

Hiya Machick, oh wow hun, i had this prob not so long ago, nasty, you will have to pad and bind the pad with lint free cotton wool, and elastic plaster, only let him go pee on a lead, you will have to leave him home allot, keep an eye on the dressing if okay change it on 3-4 intervals, dont clean it if it dosent need it, you'll open the wound, keep up with the antibiotics, dont let him run around, keep him in a pet cage if you have to, it will take a good 10-14 days for the cut to star closing, but best advice, try and get him to a vet.. :-)

Call your vet. You've done the right thing so far, but the thing about lacerations is, there's only a limited amount of time that they can be stitched, which is what they need to help prevent infection and let it heal perfectly. If it's left til Monday it might be too late to stitch as the edges will have started to granulate (heal).
Call the vet tho, see if they think it'll be all right as it is or if you need to bring him in.

It depends. Replace the bandages every once in a while or if they are wet/dirty to prevent infection. Also check to see if there's any debris or matter in it. Over time, check to see if it's stpped bleeding. If not, have it get stitched. Also, if it oozes and looks infected, see a vet as soon as possible: infections can become REALLY nasty.

as long as its not bleeding profusely, you should be good to go until moday to have the paw looked at. If it becomes a problem, there is usually an emergency pet hospital located in each county that is open 24/7.

Paw pads generally can't be stitched.
Keep the wound clean and dry, and to be on the safe side have your vet look at it tomorrow.
Generally keeping them clean, dry, and free from infection is all you can do to help them heal on there own.
Please keep your dog home in the future for his health and safety.

make suere its kept clean and bandaged tostop anything from getting in and tomoz just ring the vets if your really concerned there is normally an emrgency vets number you can ring for advice now

If you had a cut that big would you ignore it it or seek medical advice? YES get her to the vets.
