And what if God does exist? Were you hurt by being baptized?

If you don't think G-d exists, then you can at least see that baptism is a ritual which welcomes the child to the community of those who seek a higher purpose, the community of faith.

Baptism associates the cleansing, healing power of water with the rejoicing and celebrating of new life.

Hey, you must have held your breath like I suggested. Your back..welcome back. I guess you got baptized to proclaim your faith in....whatever your faith is? You never said what it was....but if God does or doesn't exist, there's no harm done either way.

Peace, Love, and Blessings,
Greenwood

Baptism is a religious act of purification by water usually associated with admission to membership or fullness of membership of Christianity.
Today, water baptism is most readily identified with Christianity, where it symbolizes the cleansing (remission) of sins, and the union of the believer with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection so that he becomes one of Christ's faithful. Most Christian groups practice some form of literal water-based baptism and agree that it is important, yet strongly disagree with other groups regarding any or all of several aspects of baptism, such as:

form of the baptism
recipients of baptism
meaning/effects of the act of baptism
However, a few Christian groups assert that water-based baptism has been supplanted by the promised baptism of the Holy Spirit, and water baptism was unnecessarily carried over from the early Jewish Christian practice.

if you were baptized at birth or while a baby it really isn't baptism b/c you didn't decide for yourself, but if you chose to be baptized then you are the only one who knows that answer.

It's a ritual. The meaning solely depends on your culture, community and family.

'God' has nothing to do with it other than what your cultures role has given him. In baptism (as in all other 'God' participation), he has a big role but never actually shows up for the part.

Don't allow non believers in this site turn you away from God. You need to read your bible and ground yourself in your faith before battling with non believers. Know that Jesus lives within you and will lead you in the path you should go. Don't be turned aside by doubt.

You were baptized so your mommy and daddy could make sure you go to heaven. Unbeknownst to them, they are going to hell, cause of other factors.
When you get to heaven God will wipe away all cares, and you won't give a crap if they are writhing and screaming in agony in hell forever.

Please read my words carefully:
If you see footmark in the sand, you'll say that someone passed from here...
If you see a piece of dog sh*t on the ground, you'll say that a dog passed from here...
So what about the enormous universe, the sky, stars, planets, earth and all the beauty in it, doesn't it lead to that someone made it?!!!

Some people say that everything is created by itself after the big-bang... I won't ask you about what caused the big-bang, but I'll ask you a simple question:
If you take all the letters of the alphabet, multiples of them, and you threw them randomly on the floor. Do you expect (by a chance of one in infinity) to get a poem like shakespear's??!!

Can't you see how organized our universe is, the planets, the eco-system on earth, look even in your own body... Can you control your heart-beat? Can you control your breath while you're sleeping? Who stopped your eye-lashes from growing after reaching a certain length? Who told the baby turtles to move towards the sea and not to the earth after they come out of their eggs? Who taught the bird how to make nests?

My friend, think with your heart and brain. If you're still lost, think about the following:

Do you know how to play safe?
Non-believer's case:
If there's no God and you do all what you want in life, then nothing will happen to you after life. But if there was God and you were mistaken, then you'll blame yourself FOREVER...

Believer's case:
If there's God and I followed His commands in life, then I'll be in Heaven after life FOREVER. But if there was no God and we're mistaken, then nothing bad will happen to us after life...

Now you know how to play-safe, in case you're not convinced?
