Here is the deal if you are not in the know.... and this is hot.
Microsoft has ended support for all Winsdows OS (Operating Systems) all the way up to Windows XP SP2 (Service Pack 2). This means absolutely no more Crtical Updates which are mostly security - others are bug fixes. To add insult to injury, they sell Windows Critical Updates to older machine users like Win 98.
So, Linux being around for years is suddenly a security choice now and a way to "refurbish" an older machine - and Linux is "alive" meaning there are the ongoing updates and upgrades as any Operating System and like Apple/Mac.

Why Linux is the perfect system for people who hate computers

If you are not that up on security then, in real world what you will hear about operating Windows without a firewall and paid subscription antivirus and antispyware is that - you are an idiot. And harch language aside - would be perfectly correct. What was the importance of windows Critical Updates for the average user ? In the last 14 moths there have been three what is called "Zero Day Explots" - the WMFmetafile, VML, and Ani Cursor exploits. These were holes in the Windows OSA that cybercriminals took full advantage of by pumping and dumping all sorts of malware including trojans and spyware and keyloggers and so on. If someone who did not have a clue - their pc was probably hijacked and placed in a malware botnet or "zombie network" - which are responsible for up to 70 percent of world spam and account for up to 4 percent annually of the population of the USA in Identity Theft. And that was just the USA. The malware botnet zombie networks are clocked at between 4 and 11 percent of world computers - over 100 million infected and infested computers.
So from a security aspect, the Linux OS seems the way to go. The latest zero day threat was the .ani files cursor exploit hole which allows full control of an infected machine from malware installed without the owner's knowledge. An emergency patch was released April 03 2007 - days ago. So what about everybody else that isn't running WindowsXP SP2 or new Vista OS ? They are left out in the cold and have to rely on paid antivirus and paid antispyware real time protection - and there are now those software programs that are discontinuing support for older machines, and I believe Zone Alarm firewall is another that quit all OS below Windows ME.
So - alternate - enter Linux OS, alive and well with ongoing support.

There is a Operating System called Linux???
LOL....
Seriously, a small group of people jump on there soap boxes yelling at the top of there lungs saying it is better because it is open source and free, or relativly low cost, depending on the version you use.
The biggest draw for most people to Linux is that it is not Microsoft. So alot of Microsoft haters use it just because of that.
Also, Linux is not, and I know there will be alot of flamers on this statement, I repeat, is not user friendly. If you have no Computer skills you will have no luck tweaking linux to use all your hardware and software. Alot of hardware out there is not designed to be used with Linux and requires some creative measures to get it to work.
Anyway, that all said remember, this is my opinion.....
And notice I did not once say that Windows was better, but that wont matter to the Linux flamers out there.....

Its realistic permit me give an explanation for with a realistic schematic: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ MAC OS -> you get balance for the cost, you get pace and plenty of different matters. The anti virus on a mac is inappropriate as is for Linux, each come from the identical moms UNIX. As I understand you do not fairly have a enormous help for video games regardless that. $$$$$$$$ Windows -> you may have eighty% kind of customers on the planet, Its less expensive then Mac OS (Mac Os comes simplest with MAC procedures). You have the fine video games and application produced for home windows. But you get a few identified disorders that pass along side the title of Micro$oft - no balance, plenty of BUGS, Crashes, malfunctions, and a lot more. Linux OS - good its loose. It has balance, it has excellent Hardware help, it has all that you wish to have as a traditional consumer will have to ever desire from an running process. The password factor is there simplest to avert you from crashing the process via doing dull matters :), the linux OS it asks you a password simplest while it has to switch the process documents. It does now not have a excellent gaming help however hello it evolves quicker than you'll say Bill Gates. :))

On the positive side, Linux tends to be a more secure operating system, very, very few viruses and spyware effect it.
On the negative side, it does not have the support that Windows does, but that is improving constantly.
I run both with a dual boot system.
