Ok. Well I got my doberman from a shelter, and he is very Pure bred. I went to the Akc site, and looked at all the standards for them, and he more than exceeds them, except for his ears, he was that way when I got him. Well, all our dobermans were always registerd, but my father did all the buisness. He's the one who bred them and everything. I was just a kid, so I know nothing about it. Well, he didnt know what to do to get him registered becuase he thinks that he needs a pin number or something from the Dam, and Sire? (Pffft.... Like I know!) But the thing is, I cant locate his first owner. What can I do, I want to register him becuase I want to compete in all the courses. He can do any job, so I want to compete.

The shelter experts told me that he came from a breeder becuase when they found him, his tail was professionally Docked, and his dew claws were removed, and where we live, only the breeders do that. And Its not like it really matters, I dont want the papers to just have papers, I love him and I just want to get into something with him. Can any of you help?

I third what K and Baa_Baa said.

If you don't have direct contact with the original owner, there is no way to get access to your dog's full AKC registration. Even if you could somehow link your dog to his registration by use of microchip or DNA, I do not believe there is any way that AKC can transfer the registration into your name without the original owner signing the papers over.

However, if your dog is clearly purebred, you can register him with Indefinite Listing Privilege to compete in everything but the confirmation breed ring -- you can still compete in obedience, Rally obedience, agility, and other sports with AKC. Plus there are lots of other venues where you can compete regardless of your dog's breeding (ex. Agility: USDAA, NADAC, CPE, UKC. Rally: APDT, WWW3. Obedience: UKC, ASCA, CDSP). And if your dog is from a shelter, he's likely neutered and therefore ineligible from the breed ring anyway, so you aren't missing anything by not having the papers except from the knowledge of his ancestry.

To get an ILP number:

Your boy is also eligible to compete in any of the non-AKC events listed here, some of which are arguably better venues (like USDAA):

Have fun!

Sorry but there is no way to register him with AKC or any other legit registry unless you have the actual registration paper with the transfer on back properly filled out or have the actual registration application filled out by the breeder.

You can get an ILP# from AKC. This is NOT a registration but rather a number that allows you to compete with him in obedience, rally and other performance events. You can't show in conformation though. You also need to get him neutered (which if he came from the shelter or a rescue he already should be) and send in proof along with the application, 2 pictures, 1 a complete side veiw the other a complete front view that clearly shows his face and his front markings, and the application fee.

You can't compete in AKC events without either a registration number or an ILP number.

Provided the dad and mom are AKC registered, the dogs will also be AKC registered. Makes no change whether or not they're of European, or American bloodlines. If you import, it is sure to fee extra. If this man is breeding from European strains, however in America, he is making an attempt it on by way of asking extra, so much as a few folks is also watching for a Doberman from European and now not American strains and be inclined to pay extra - that a lot more??? Add - Breed Standards might range moderately nation to nation, and for certain, nearby interpretation will even range, however all breeds will have to be practically the equal. Many breeders appear to different international locations for inventory, to widen the gene pool and this present day, the sector has gotten smaller in all locations, so our puppies are watching way more universally identical as they maybe as soon as did. Which can most effective been well considering that once more, there will have to be no change!

If he was bred by a real reputable AKC breeder then he should have come registered (breeder register litters). Also the shelter probably would have given you the papers. Actually he may be fine on the outside but what do his genes say? He may be worth the same as a mutt.

He can compete in courses without being registered. Except for dog shows (which you can hook up with a kennel and show their dogs) you can do everything else.

My aussie isn't AKC registered and he will be doing agility soon and maybe even flyball. My chiweenie I think will be doing earthdog trials soon.

So basically you can do EVERYTHING except show ring stuff. Hope this helps!

You can apply for an Indefinate Listing Privelege registration from the AKC. This will allow you to compete in all AKC events, except conformation. He will have to be neutered to get an ILP number, and conformation shows are only for judging breeding stock.

Here is a link for more information about ILP numbers.

You can't register your dog with the AKC unless you have the registration #'s of both parents and the litter.
However, if you'd like to compete your purebred dog in AKC events other than conformation, you can apply for an Indefinite Listing Privilege number to use to enter him.

I am not sure which AKC event you are interested in, but you can participate in obedience competition without registration. Unless you are planning on breeding the dog, registration does not mean much. Its a way for AKC (non-profit organization) to make millions. You can also request for ILP number, but what is the point ??
