Just because you do is no reason to give up asking Jesus to forgive you. At the same time you are asking for forgiveness ask Him to help you stop sinning. You will eventually win out over sin.

Repent in the original Greek meant to "turn around" so apologizing really isn't the same thing. If we commit a sin and repent we have turned away from that sin and we would be undoing God's forgiveness by turning away from God back towards the sin. That is how I was taught to view this but I am a hopeless sinner as well so don't think I don't struggle with constantly sinning and repenting for the same sins.

Just because I know intellectually that I'll probably sin again doesn't mean I have to like it. As long as we keep putting up an effort, our success is immaterial. Fortunately. Lukewarm Christians don't mind sinning anymore, they just take it for granted that they will be forgiven. Of COURSE Jesus isn't going to like that!

Romans gives a better explanation of repetative sin and sinning so we can be forgiven over and over again than I can.

But, basically its about your heart. Do you sin knowing that you dont want to do it? Do you feel the pull to continue to try and stop the sin? When you ask forgiveness, do you also ask for strength and courage to stop the sin that invades your life?
THe answers to these questions, only you and God know.
If we sin with the thought that we can just go ask for forgiveness later, then we have missed the whole point of Jesus paying our debt for us.

Jesus epitomises forgiveness. You have forgiveness once you accept Christ. And yes,you can go back to God after sinning, because you were made righteous by Jesus, and you can stand in front of Him.
Lukewarm,in Bible terms, means believing in your mind only, and not accepting Jesus in your heart, and the gift of forgiveness of sins.
That doesnt mean we ,Christians, dont sin.
Christians are not perfect, they are just forgiven.
And they get help from Him,once they let go of this false idea that "i can do everything through my strength, and willpower".
God doesnt condemn you,and once you realise this ..you get the power to overcome that sin. (look at the women caught in adultery.. Jesus told her "Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more.")
After He gave her this amazing gift of no condemnation , she was able to receive the power from Him to overcome that sin.

True repentence means that we understand that it is sin and we will not repeat it. We also understand that if it is a real problem, Jesus lends his strength to us to resist temptation. I guess what I'm trying to say is that there is a difference between regret and repentence. You may regret that you do something but know that you will continue. Repentence is knowing what you are doing is wrong and resolving to never do it again. Forgiveness is offered for repentence.

Lukewarm is a GREAT word.
You must not mean your words, when you ask for forgiveness--or you would NOT turn around and do it again.
