How can the Mormon church ignore "Thou shalt have no graven images."

What in the word "NO" don't the inspired leaders understand?

Each time I visit a Mormon, and see the fluffy pictures of their effeminate God, I wince.

I pray to my Master. Not a guy who would make the cover of some HappyBoy mag.

And the Mormons think the Catholics have the wrong usage of "trinkets" GO TO A DESERET BOOK store...and what do you see but merchandizing spiritual stuff.

What would Jesus do to the tables there, huh? (be honest now)

There is nothing like believers loving each other and showing the strength of their faith.

If they are worshipping those images, then I think they have a problem. But I'm guessing most just see them as a reminder of Christ, something to keep him in one's heart. It's no more evil then having a nice car, or nice home, or beautiful wife...it all depends on how you deal with it. I think Jesus would be pretty proud that Mormons are trying to live according to how they interpret His teachings, whether that's right or wrong, but only God and Jesus know that. I try not to judge others because it is not my role.

Actually the biblical text, read in context and properly understood, says "thou shalt not have graven images and WORSHIP them". The text is about idolatry, not statuary. Catholics certainly don't worship the statues found in their churches, and I doubt that Mormons worship theirs either.

As for how God feels about graven images, read His specific instructions for construction of the Ark of the Covenant, upon which He would personally reside. Note that His instructions include detailed descriptions of two golden graven images, to be placed upon the Ark.

Also, I have noticed that some Protestant churches place a collection of graven images in public view once a year. They call this display a "manger scene". But they don't worship it, so there is no biblical problem.

yes, you are correct.Anabaptists take this very serious. As an Anabaptist artist I find this difficult. My artistic talents are gifts from God, so they are there for use, but what kind of use?Do I specialize only in basic geometric design? If I can do animals can I do people?Do I draw, paint and print people without their faces? Its a hard delimia for me.As a result I never sign my work as its prideful. For me I do not draw biblical images because to me its blasphemy. If we look at Deut 4:15-20 we see that it is the false idol aspect that we have to becareful about when it comes to art and objects: "Take careful heed to yourselves, for you saw no form when the LORD spoke to you at Horeb out of the midst of the fire, lest you act corruptly and make for yourselves a carved image in the form of any figure: the likeness of male or female, the likeness of any animal that is on the earth or the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the air, the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground or the likeness of any fish that is in the water beneath the earth. And take heed, lest you lift your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun, the moon, and the stars, all the host of heaven, you feeldriven to worship them and serve them, which the LORD your God has given to all the peoples under the whole heaven as a heritage. Butthe LORD has taken you and brought you out of the iron furnace, out of Egypt, to be His people, an inheritance, as you are this day." However art is still permited, in Deutoronomy and Exodus God gives Moses a highly detailed account for God's temple.God's crammed with the finest artistry and craftsmanship that would have surpassed that of the pagan civilizations of the time. But that was the Old Testament and the Jews were allowed top be modest but in fancy clothing with fancy homes. For an example; When the Jews left slavery in Egypt God commanded the Jewish women to take jewerally from the Egyptian women. However I am a Christian, not a Jew and the New Testament does say in 1 Timothy 2:8-10 "that women (should) adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; 10But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works." This confuses things. If we are to be modestly dressed, live modest lives and have a modest appearance and then do fancy art are we not a false witness to others and disobeying God?Obviously art is allowed, but art not for worshipping.Even the Amish, Brethren and Mennonites who are all very strict about this, do permit art to come through in practical objects like handmade furniture and quilts.Scrapbooking is also a biggie. There is an Amish artist Susie Reihl who does watercolours solely of nature and her surroundings.

why are you so rude? first fof all: He said, no images of a false god, do not worship images, and statues and stuff like that. Mormons do not worships statues! yes, they have pictures of Jesus and stuff, but they do not worship them. what gave you that idea? and 'fluffy' pictures?
anyways, thats not what God was talking about when he said, "thou shalt have no graven images" and you know thats not what he meant.

Get a life!
I know of no Mormon that worships those pictures of Christ. I also know of no Mormon who worships any of the "statues".
Every church , Mormon, Baptist, Catholic, etc, has a picture or statue of Christ in it. We don't worship the pictures or statues. They are there out of respect and a reminder of Christ.
Homeward your questions are getting sillier all the time.

Are the pictures engraven? I suppose some of them are.

Yeah, I'd say a lot of Christians have a problem here... get the pictures out of your homes and off your bumper stickers or there'll be a good whoopin' comin' yer direction...

You have GOT to get that chip off your shoulder!!

There is nothing wrong with having pictures in our chapels, and as for how He is portrayed, I don't see anything effeminate about them.

When Jesus returns he is probably going to call you a goofball and give you a dunce cap and tell you to go sit in a corner.
