The problem is the my COBRA Health insurance is going to run out within 5 month.
It cost me $380 per month, for me only.
As of October 2006, my COBRA health insurance no longer covered my medicine, which cost me over $300 per month out of my pocket.

I am 35 years old with no medical problem.
The current company I am working for the past 10 months refusedto hire me in as an employee, so I am still a temp.

What health insurance do you recommend for basic coverage?
And how long does the process takes? (1 month, 2 months, 3 months, etc...)

If you have no medical problems, then why are you taking $300 worth of medicine every month?

First, find out if your current plan does not cover drugs, or if you don't have a drug card. It may be covered, but subject to a deductible.

That being said, you are being very pro-active about your health insurance, which is wonderful. However, 5 months away is a little too far in the future to shop for insurance. Everything can change in the next 5 months regarding carriers, rates, your medical conditions, etc. By the way, you do have medical needs (problems) that require $300 in prescriptions every month. Be sure and discuss this with any agent you talk to about medical insurance so they know more about what company to look at for you. The process should take less than 1 month.

Regarding the companies, that will depend on where you live and your needs and wants. I see a lot of "Blue Cross Blue Shield" recommendations all the time, but I am not a fan of the Blues. I have better companies (and represent BCBS), with better coverage than they do. However, they are like Coca-Cola and Kleenex - they have a very recognizable name. Find a good independent agent in your area about 2 months before your insurance ends and let them help you.

you don't say where you live, but which state you are living in may have a lot to do in determining your options. I am an agent in Florida, and often find folks in your situation. My recommendation is to first of all, be honest about your health situation. Sadly, $300 in meds doesn't necessarily mean that you have serious health issues. There are single prescriptions that can cost as much as $150-200/month. I don't normally recommend that customers buy insurance online, especially health insurance, because those easy issue policies can be really complex when claims have to be filed. My suggestion is that you find an independent agent, maybe one that specializes in health insurance, and check them out (by name) on your state's Department of Insurance website. In Florida, anyone can check out my name to see if I am legit, and if I have any complaints against me. Once that trust has been established, you should be able to find some sort of health coverage as an individual policy, especially at your age. Good Luck.

If you spend $300 a month on medicine , You DO have medical problems (at least as insurance sees it) .
I am almost 60 and don't spend $300 in a year .
Best you start applying for other regular jobs Now ,
Jobs that have standard benefits or relocate to somewhere there are those jobs .

Health Insurance really sucks these days. and Its continously expensive.
A website to check out is called www.tonikhealth.com its run by Blue Cross and its actually pretty good for people who need insurance quickly. You choose what day you want the coverage to start. There's an application you fill out online, asking about you, your health, history and things like that, and its gives you 3 options of health plans, all of which are a PPO. After the application it will let you know how much monthly you have to pay and all the information you need. It's a very quick process. I was approved within 1 day and my coverage started on the day i chose, which i believe was 5 days after i had signed up. Definitely check out tonik health.
Good luck.

at this point you should probably just go online and apply for medicaid. Or you can go up to FIA in your area and see a counselor who will help you apply. Its not the best thing in the world but if you need it then you need it. Make sure you take proof of employment, or unemployment if you can. You may also be able to file for unemployment, unless you are working through a temp agency.
If you are through a temp agency then they should offer insurance. I worked through Adecco for awhile and we were offered insurance if we wanted it.

Good Luck!

I can feel your pain. When I became self-employed my husband picked up the insurance on the family. It costs more than I paid through my previous job and doesn't have the same level of coverage. I found a Health Benefits Company that offers Dental, Vision, Chiropractic and Prescription for $11.95/month for an individual and $19.95/month for a whole household (up to 20 people living under your roof whether they are related to you or not). They also offer Medical (including your primary care physician, ancillary care, hospital advocacy, etc) plus the Dental plan above for $49.95/month for an individual and $59.95/month for the household. I get better discounts on my prescriptions with them than with my husbands insurance. This isn't insurance it is Consumer Drive Health care-A discount medical plan organization. There is no deductible, no limits on visits or services, on-going conditions are accepted, no age limits, no waiting period...you can email me for more detailed information. You can also search for providers in your area on line or refer physicians if yours isn't listed. I absolutely love the plan. I was also able to drop my husbands coverage through his employer within 60 days of getting this coverage. Saves us $300 month in insurance premiums alone.
