You can try the San Francisco Food Bank and help sort food.
From VolunteerMatch:
"Volunteers help to get food ready to be distributed to soup kitchens, food pantries, after-school programs, and all of the other 500+ places that feed people in need for free throughout the city of San Francisco. Projects typically involve sorting donations from food drives and grocery stores, repackaging bulk items into more useful portions, gleaning and boxing fresh produce, or stocking grocery shelves. In a single shift, you can work with food that will impact thousands throughout San Francisco.
Projects are run Monday through Saturday, 9am-Noon and 12:30-3:30pm. Evening projects are held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 6-8pm. We have also added a monthly Sunday volunteer day with the 9am-Noon and 12:30-3:30pm volunteer times. Please just ask if you are interested in learning the dates for these Sundays. We do ask volunteers to commit to the entire duration of the 2 or 3 hour project shift. All projects must be scheduled in advance, and spaces can be reserved by emailing or calling me. We welcome one-time or ongoing volunteers."
