If you have a few spare minutes could you answer some questions based on articles in english.

Something very strange happened to me the other night. As I was going home (1) man came up to me. He had (2) untidy hair and (3) paint all over his clothes. He told me he was (4) head of the local council and that he was offering me a job as (5) road sweeper. He said that (6) road sweeper earns a great deal of money and that I would have (7) responsibility for miles of roads. Well, I just said ‘No thanks’ and walked on. When I looked back he had stopped (8) woman. He was telling her that he was (9) President of the United States and that he wanted her to be (10) Defence Secretary.

2) Whats you native tounge? Does it use articles?

3)I have studied English (most of my life), German, Spanish, and French.

4) They're important because they help you know whether the text/speech is talking about something/someone specific (eg. the man - a certain man) or just "a" man - any man.

1) 1-a 2-0 3-0 4-the, although 0 or even a would also be possible 5-a 6-a although the would also work 7-the but I don't like the grammar of that clause 8-a 9-0 although the would also work 10-0 although the would also work

2) English, yeah

3) French, Italian (though I've forgotten just about everything), German, plus *very* minimally Japanese, Somali and Swahili

4) Not a very answerable question, but I'll go with "quite important".

I'll give you a general rule for the use of articles. If a word begins with a vowel and it's singular, you use 'an' if it starts with a constenant, you would use 'a'.

There are two pronunciations of the word 'the'. If it precedes a constenant, its the short version but if it precedes a word beginning with a vowel, you lengthen it so that it sounds like 'thee'.
