Why not, ?? If they are legally married I think it would be great for you to address them as the husband or wife...being straight myself, I think all anyone wants is to be treated with respect and dignity, and they have made it formal, and are proud, you should be proud to be their friend and respect them, and if you don't feel comfortable, just say, how is your better half..

Husband and wife are words that have very distinct connotations. Spouse applies to either male or female partners, and works best. If you are talking to her friend, one would assume that you know her significant other's name, so why not just use the name when you talk about that person?

First preference is always to use whatever your friend uses. Ask if you don't know.
Since full, legally-recognized same-sex marriage is a recent triumph, traditional terms like wife and husband are often enjoyed as a wee reminder that of this victory!

Since they're legally married, "wife" would be appropriate. "Partner" has long been the word of choice, but since they've had a legal ceremony, I'm sure "wife" would sound quite nice to them.

Well if they are married, then it is appropriate to refer to them as "wife". They are two women so both would be the wife!
????? I think, but just ask her what her better half is (husband or wife) OR you can just ask "How is _(name here)___?"

"Partner" is the term of choice. Then ask, "Wait you guys are married, right? So partner doesn't seem like the right term..."
Then let your friend pick up the conversation from there and explain.

Why don't you just call the person by name??? Trying to figure out what the proper, or politically correct, title to call someone is just making things more complicated than they need be.

She is your friend, right?
Tell her that you are not sure what to call her partner, now that they are a married couple..........and she will gladly explain to you what they personally like to be called by their friends.
Am sure this will work out fine!

Spouse or other half would be fine. OR their first name if you are close to them both.

I would go with saying 'Spouse'
She might feel awkward if you say 'Wife'
But what would be even better is if you know her partner's name. Then you can just casually ask 'How's - person's name- doing?"
