Just a matter of semantics. Saying I believe in my friend, directly implies that I know his characteristics. I could hear some news and say, I know my friend would not do that, it's not true.
The same thing with God. If you didn't know this, then know it now; When we say I believe in God, it means we believe in the one that we know shaped us, and that we know created the entire universe. It says that we believe in the one who we know hanged the stars and who we know made the quarks to form atoms. I believe in God says that we KNOW that God loves us, and no play on words or definitions can ever change that.

"believe-to be persuaded of the truth or existence of, to have faith in the reliability, honesty, benevolence, etc., of"
"faith-confident belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of a person, idea, or thing"
Those are definitions from Webster's, and I am not sure if you are right or not. I AM sure it does not matter what kind of word games you play...I believe in God , I know God, and God is real! Does that cover it for you? You are looking at syntax as a way of discrediting an entire (huge) group of people and it won't work. The fact that you have put so much effort into this tells me you think about God, therefore he does exist to you. I am glad.

If you believe something to be true is that not the same as having knowledge of this same thing?
That fact also is that with our faith in God we don't need evidence, we feel God once we allow ourselves to believe in Him. So yes I KNOW there is a God and I have ALL the evidence I need to have Faith in Him.

Interesting thought. Faith for sure is going on lack of physical evidence. But when a person does develop faith it is pleasing to God and He gives you a sure foundation to stand on those beliefs. When you have a relationship with God you know Him as Father.

May be true for the religious, but what of those who have been "resurrected" from the DEAD as I have. Belief ended along time ago and can avow I KNOW there is a God because I have MET the supreme creator of all things as a person ill and constantly fighting to stay alive in this world. You are right about where you stand, but it doesn't substantiate GOD DOES NOT "EXIST" simply because you yourself are limited to your own level of knowledge..........

"In the beggining was the word" Come on, give me a break. The is no beggining to anything but only a change of states to which always was. No alpha, no omega. Only perhaps and idea has a beginning. So faith is the idea that must have had a beggining. Knowing cannot exist. It is the idea of faith that creats the immagination of knowing.

To say that I believe in God is normal. I have never seen God, so how can I say otherwise. The Bible proves God, Science proves God, and you choose to accept the belief or not. I made up my mind. I grew up Christian, I became skeptical, I studied advanced science; and the complexity of the universe, and the laws of Physics lead me to conclude that nothing is random. So yes, I believe, I have accepted Jesus Christ as my savior, but I have not seen him. I do however, believe that he knows me.

If you where to know God, can we assumed you had, a personal relationship whit HIM(God)? If so, then I Will believed you my know something about HIM, that can become relevant, as to the effect that of a cause, you could have achieved, to make such a claim, this because a short analysis to your words, as to you're own beliefs, on HIM, and knowing HIM. Its of my perception that you haven't Love HIM, long enough, and deep enough, nor have you experience his true Love, yet enough to even begin to work in the possibilities of getting to know HIM!, remember that before you can even think into achieving something like that, you will need to go through Jesus with such argumentative approach to what?, to ask for permission to get to know HIM(God)?, under the assumptions that, "It's not the same, to Love HIM, as to Know HIM"<<<>>isn't so, what, is the idea, all about??????.

To believe in God is to know of God through experience of divine mercy and love, witnessing the wonders of creation, and experiences on a personal level. These personal experiences in particular give you that sense of knowingness. Faith is trust in God's loving mercy and providence. Evidence is from seeing and knowing that everything we are and everything we have comes from God.
I find it really odd that many come on here with questions that they already provide answers to. That shows a closed mind to me.

That's what Faith is all about, believing something you cant see. How can you critisize Christians for this? Scientists believe in atoms yet not one scientist has ever seen an atom. They are as guilty of faith as Christians! Believing in something that is not seen!
Thomas answered and said to him. "My lord and my God!" Jesus said to him, "have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and believed!" -Jn 20:28-29
