How You Grow in Christ
Sunday, April 15, 2007
Scripture:
“Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander, like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.” – 1 Peter 2:1-3 NASB
Peter says the life of a newborn baby provides a helpful picture about the way we grow in our spiritual lives. Like newborn babies, our spiritual lives have a beginning, at the moment we are saved. Just like those babies, we as born-again Christians need spiritual “milk” in order to grow.
The responsibility for spiritual nourishment is on us. We must take action. And without that action, we cannot experience growth.
Peter identifies two kinds of action that we must undertake. First, we need to recognise that some things contaminate us and hinder us from growing. There are places we shouldn’t go, people we shouldn’t associate with and things we shouldn’t do. We cannot mature as Christians unless these are eliminated from our lives.
But we also must “long for the pure milk of the word.” We need to feed on the nourishment we only can get from God’s Word. We need to crave the Word. Read the Word. Memorize the Word. Live by the Word. And we must seek to be pure in every part of our lives.
Today, no matter what your level of maturity, God wants you to continue to grow. The path to growth begins when you desire to rid yourself of anything that separates you from Jesus. Then, eagerly long for the “pure milk of the word.” Fill your mind with the Word. Believe it and put it into action in your life.
Prayer:
Father, I want to grow and mature as a Believer. Search my life, and reveal anything that is hindering my relationship with You. Give me greater hunger for Your Word. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Oh man, you are sooo not alone! I'm old and although belief in God for me has always been a "given",for me, belief in Jesus unquestioningly (as I was taught the story) has for all these many years given me reason to speculate. I read a lot, some fiction often seems like realistic speculation.
To try to make this as short as possible, I used to give little thought to prayer, I did give Thanks, but rather casually. There came a time in my life I just couldn't "fix everything" any more, too much pressure. I began to consciously think about who I should be talking to about this, and doing just that. I experienced the help and strength I needed at that time without a doubt. It was then my faith in sincere prayer was confirmed, no other explanation. I then just started actively trying to, wanting to, and meditating why I could accept the fact Jesus Is God the Son. he Begotten Son of God. I realized although I've felt so blessed, that now while facing some very serious problems I need God's help so desperately, I must ask it in Jesus name. Because I believe that, I can believe "he Arose" "With God, all things are possible", I know that is fact.
It is pretty easy to finally establish a philosophy you can hold as your own and feel satisfied these things are your beliefs!

Reading the bible is one big step. Get one that u understand, like NIV version or new king james, or teen study bible. The closer you get to God, the more the enemy ( satan) will attack you ! Doubt for example. God does things on HIS time, and it is always the right time. U need to let God take over the steering wheel of ur life. Just pray about a problem and let God handle it. That's having faith, U have to take it step by step and trust God. If U grow in Faith u grow in believing. Here is an awsome website:

You can't just say "i'm trusting God" because that is hard. You have to get to know Him too. Talk to Him, pray to Him, tell Him everything. A prayer journal really helps by writing down your prayers instead of saying them because your mind can wander during prayer. Also, read your Bible everyday. Set aside a certain time where you just soak in God's word. Ever since I started doing that (since christmas 2006) I have noticed a difference in my spiritual life for the better! the more you know God, the more you can trust Him. The more you trust Him, the more faith you have in Him.
hope this helps!
God bless

Most of the answers we're looking for are not what we desire. In the era around the first century the Romans had a peculiar punishment for murder. They would chain the dead body to the murderer and the murderer would carry it around, until he succumbed to a disease from it more than likely. Our flesh is compared to that dead body. It is dead, but we are alive in Christ Jesus, and we are still attached to it. Even though it's dead its desires and lusts, which is basically the definition of the flesh, can kill us if we don't crucify it, our own fleshly desire etc., daily. The fact that the answer isn't what we desire becomes clear then, wouldn't you say. A friend told me that when you're looking for an answer from God it's most likely going to be to do what you don't want to do. The alternative is to carry on with the status quo here on earth and burn in hell for eternity.

--NO , I'M sorry it does not say "just believe" and like magic you have faith.
--THAT WHAT YOU refer to is religions "blind faith"--and in no way compares to the Bibles faith that is similar to the factual belief of the sciences that exercise "faith"---
(Hebrews 11:1) “11 Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld.”
--YOUR OPPENING POINT of just believe or have faith---INDEED IS NOT WHAT YOU thought it to be!
--THE DEVELOPING of genuine faith takes time and work, for someone who is just learning about Jehovah God & Christ Jesus and their promises!
--"JUST BELIEVE" & "HAVE FAITH"--that you were referring to in a different translation involved what someone who was an apostle of Christ should have ALREADY have had--AND yet doubted severly!
--THIS IS WHAT he was saying previously perhaps as a "show" of his so-called faith:
(John 11:16) “16 Therefore Thomas, who was called The Twin, said to his fellow disciples: “Let us also go, that we may die with him.””
(John 20:26-27) “26 Well, eight days later his disciples were again indoors, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and he stood in their midst and said: “May YOU have peace.” 27 Next he said to Thomas: “Put your finger here, and see my hands, and take your hand and stick it into my side, and stop being unbelieving but BECOME BELIEVING(my caps).. . .”29 Jesus said to him: “Because you have seen me have you believed? Happy are those who do not see and yet believe.”
--HERE WAS an ESTABLISHED apostle who SHOULD HAVE had the ESTABLISHED faith without having to put his fingers in Jesus wounds!
----THUS JESUS was correcting him strongly & pointedly!
--THIS REPROVING was not meant in any way for someone who had no knowledge of God & Christ!
--PREVIOUSLY the apostles with the right attitude expressed this great need , whether Thomas was there or not , I am not sure, Please Note:
(Luke 17:5-6) “5 Now the apostles said to the Lord: “Give us more faith.” 6 Then the Lord said: “If YOU had faith the size of a mustard grain, YOU would say to this black mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea!’ and it would obey YOU.”
--SO THEN faith is an ongoing thing, its a quality that we need to maintain with constant vigor, just as the rest of these other qualities:
(Galatians 5:22-23) “22 On the other hand, the fruitage of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, 23 mildness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
--PRIMARY WAY of maintain faith and the other fruitages is what Jesus recommended:
(Luke 11:11-13) “11 Indeed, which father is there among YOU who, if his son asks for a fish, will perhaps hand him a serpent instead of a fish? 12 Or if he also asks for an egg, will hand him a scorpion? 13 Therefore, if YOU, although being wicked, know how to give good gifts to YOUR children, how much more so will the Father in heaven give holy spirit to those asking him!””
--Asking God for help with weakened qualities is a must for any Christian, THE qualities mentioned in Galatians are not of personality traits, but blessings from God's holy spirit!

This is actual and interesting question and I would love to just say "You'll know when it is God"...but I am assuming you want more of an answer then that.
I have found in my experience that when I am faithful to God, then I see differences in my life. I have had situations in my life where I never thought I would "get through" and with prayer and faith things turned out.
so all I can say is "Have faith" :)
Good Luck

You better get off your butt and work out a solution to your problems and not just depend on faith to fix everything for you. You depend solely on God for a Solution and you will be able to say Eureka that's Gods solution but it wont be one you want.

Look at God`s love and get grounded in it, get grounded in what the cross means for you. Why do i mention about love,in what concerns faith?
Gal 5:6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing,5100 nor uncircumcision; but235 faith which worketh by love.
FAITH works by LOVE. by knowing His love ! And when you know His love for you.. you start loving Him :) (1 John 4:19)
