Is there a standard or should I just make sure the cork stays wet?

At an angle to ensure the cork is covered, about 10-15 degrees, but I do not think it matters.

The proper angle is one in which the cork is elevated just enough to allow some wine to cover the inside surface of the cork. (Something around 10 degrees from horizontal).
Some cheap wine racks are too steep and allow air to rise in the neck of the bottle. Most large wooden racks just lay the bottle flat on it's side. Good red wine should be stored in a dark cool place and turned by hand periodically.

Flat Wine Rack

The wine racks I have all tilt the bottles down at an ever so slight angle, just enough to keep the corks wet. If yours doesn't, then remember to rotate them every couple months. My racks came from a wine shop, so that teeny bit of slant is just enough.

Angle of storage - Wine must be stored on its side to keep the cork moist and tight against the bottle neck. If a bottle is stored upright, the cork will eventually dry out and shrink, exposing the wine to the dangers of oxidation and vinegaring. Bubbles will escape from Sparkling wines causing them to 'go flat' as well.

wine is not meant to be left open for long you are supposed to drink it then, maybe leave open for a month or so at most, it lasts longer if you refrigerate it you can still drink it if you want, but if someone who drank wine frequently would taste it, they would probably know it was old, they could taste it even if you don't that stuff doesn't really go bad, it will just not taste good and can ferment more, the most sugary a drink is the less time you should save it after opening

Yes you should store it so that the wine is running toward the cork so that it stays wet. The only other thing is that you should rotate or turn the bottle every so often.

Built a serious winerack when I had my shop.
It held bottles horizontally.
Client said Keeping the corks "wet" was the important thing to him.

This site is pretty good. Just Google and read up!

I personally keep my wine on its side with some wine touching the cork.
