At 18 yo male, you only register for selective service. Enlisting in the army is not mandatory.

If you are overseas, you can still register via the Internet. You require to have proof of registration in order to receive federal financial aid.

N O, but you have to register for the Selective Service when you reach 18 if you are a male
American Citizen. If you move to another country
like Australia, stay there and DON'T come back!!!!! In Australia, I think you may have a 2 year committment to join their military.

The United States Army is a volunteer Army. We do not force people to enlist at any age. We do require that people register for the selective services at age 18. All that means is that when the real crap hits the fan (I predict it would be nothing less than a homeland invasion) we would enforce a draft. I suppose you could try to dodge it, but the circumstances that would have to unfold to cause a draft are so great that if anyone decided to leave to dodge the draft, I say let them leave and decapitate them if they ever come back!

You do NOT have to enlist however you must register with the Selective Service System. From their site:

If you are a man ages 18 through 25 and living in the U.S., then you must register with Selective Service. It’s the law. You can register at any U.S. Post Office and do not need a social security number.

Federal and many state laws require registration-age men to be registered with Selective Service to remain eligible for applying for the following benefits: student financial aid, government employment, employment with the U.S. Postal Service, job training, and U.S. citizenship for male immigrants.

You can even register online. So whether you are in the country or not, you still need to register, by law.

WTF?

If you are in Isreal or Belguim maybe.

Here in the good old USA you can fart it off without penalty.

You sound like a chicken shi... bastar... so when you fill out your Selective Service registration when you turn 18 just make a one digit error on your SSN and I won't have to deal with you in Boot Camp.

You don't have to enlist just register. And what a terrible thing for someone to say about leaving the USA for Australia.

The Military is still All Volunteer, if you move so what, except that you will have to live the rest of your life knowing you let your fellow Americans down.

Some countrys you have too and others you don't. In America it's not required unless a draft is issued.
