i am babysitting for this woman in my town. she has two young children, one still in diapers. I will be watching them about 4 days a week from 9-5 but also later some nights here an there.

I am over the age of 18, i drive, and have had plenty of experiance taking care of children.

how much do you think i should charge and why?

she has an elderly woman doing it now but she wants the children home for them summer. i will cook, and pick up the things the children get out for the day. i may also put them to bed, bathe them, etc. be a mom basically.

but, i dont think she has tons of money because she is a single mom. i dont want to charge too much.

how is $2 per child per hour? ($4 an hour?). i dont know...

at least$5 an hour.
For daycare she probably pays 5 an hour per kid. At least I do.

First you should check to see what local daycares are charging, since rates can vary greatly depending on what part of the country you live in. Then you should get about 25-50% more than they charge because you will be working exclusively in her home with her children. You should also get CPR certified if you aren't already, and be sure to list that as one of your qualifications.

Where I live, daycares charge about $20 per child per day. So for two children in daycare it would be $40, and for an in-home nanny (which is basically what you will be) it would cost about $50-60 per day.

I'd wouldn't charge too much or you could lose your job to a relative willing to do it for cheaper or free. I would start at $100, but no more than $250 a week. I would personally charge around $125 maybe $140 if I have to cook dinner and clean the house as well. Don't charge extra for having to pick up after the kids, put if you are doing actually cleaning than yes.
