He called me this Morning,and said for me to plz send him phone cards,so he can call me every chance he can get.Now what kind of phone card do i need,and where do they usualy sell them at?.I live on base..Would they sell them here to?? Okay well im going to waite,and see what ppl say.Before i go spend tonz of $ on the wrong cards.lol thanx so much everyone!!

I just answered another one of your questions. :)

About the phone cards...I am definitely an expert on this issue. You need the AT&T Global Prepaid Card. It has Abraham Lincoln on the front, I think! Get them on base at your PX! The only other place to get them is online and then they will only send them to an overseas military address. Then you would have to wait for him to receive them to use them.

So anyway, go to your PX, buy a phone card, and the next time he calls, give him the pin #. You can reuse this card his entire deployment. You can recharge it over the phone with a credit or debit card.

Whenever my husband called, he would tell me if it's getting low and I would hang up call the 1-800 number and recharge it.

Now keep in mind they are not cheap, but they are the cheapest ones out there! No matter what anyone says, they have the best cents per minute rate. It is about 23 cents per minute.

Now if you get the cards at your PX, they are tax free. To recharge, it is NOT tax free. So either you go to your PX whenever you need a new one, or you just recharge at home.

Oh yeah, and the one that was talking about the 4 cents per minute...there are usually long lines to use these phones and you are only allowed a max of 30 minutes per day...or so I think.

Find out if he has the Internet, if he does, he can set up a Skype account and you can purchase a Skype phone and send it to him, this phone works through the Internet and then he would be able to call you for a lot cheaper than any kind of phone card. The cost of a Skype account is $38.00 for one years service, the cost of a Skype phone ranges from $20 to $80 ( the $80 phone is cordless and has a better sound than the cheaper models). If you also purchase a Skype phone, then he can call you for free, so for a about $200 you can talk for as long as you want, and even when he's not available, you can call and leave him messages on his phone, as the service includes an answering machine. My son is in Iraq and I did this for him and it's absolutely awesome! This is his second deployment there and the first time he was there his dad and I spent 5x that amount keeping him and us in phone cards, and you may buy a phone card that has 1000 minutes, but for each minutes he uses they deduct 50 units off his card, so a 20 minute call would kill a 1000 minute card. If you both have the Internet, the Skype account would be the way to go, I've actually considered this for my home phone, for $38 a year??? Not a bad price for a years worth of phone calls, and even when he comes home, he can use the phone at home...check it out at http://www.skype.com.

Good old ATT military phone cards get them at the PX simple as that and really any phone cards will work but I got the best deals with the ATT ones from AAFES. I also recomend you write the card number and the pin number down before you send it because than you can just send one and recharge its value with a credit card for him you get great deals that way. And next time he calls you can give him the number and the pin number so he does not need to wait for them to come in the mail. Tell him I said good luck and stay hydrated. Phone cards are sold everywhere but the best buys are at CostCo or Sam's Club where you can get a card for $20 which covers 750 minutes of USA long distance time, the rate for out of the US varies.

Also send him things like small shampoo and toothpaste, toothbrushes, wet naps, small mouthwash, etc. Things easy to carry. Send him letters and letters and tell him how proud you are and how much you love him, something you cannot say enough. Oh, and don't forget snacks that don't need a frig and individually wrapped.

The ATT Global cards that AAFES sells are usually the best rates from Iraq to the States. You can get them at the PX, or he can get them overseas as well.

Depending on where he ends up stationed over there, he may have access to SPAWAR phones. Those are available only at certain places, and are VoIP. You can buy the minutes online and he has PIN he uses on the phone. You can set it up to re-charge automatically so he never runs out of minutes. It costs about 4 cents/minute, which is BY FAR the best rate.

You can buy them all over the place here if he wants to get them here. There is also the net and if you can find a DSN line you can call back for free as long as he finds a base near you (I assume you are near a major US Installation) Most of them have a number you can call and they will connect you to an off base line. (The books with numbers are available at the DSN phone centers)

If you want to send him phone cards THAY HAVE TO BE AT&T I don’t know how they did it but every phone here is a direct line to the AT&T numbers so ALL other brands won’t work.

Hey well My husband is in Afghanistan. Every base he's gone to has been different. Some let you use phone cards and some don't. If he isn't to is permant FOB yet I would wait and see. In afganistan every base seems to have different phonest. But They do sell them on AAFES.com so that is a good place to look whenever you do buy them.

Just agreeing with Shadow Stalker. Get the kind at the P/X.
(You get them at the check out.) Be sure to tell the cashier that they're for calling from Iraq so she gives you the right one.

Or he can just charge the calls directly on your credit card. My husband and I found out mid tour that it was actually a better deal than using the calling card.

It depends on what branch he's in I guess, but the Army doesn't need phone cards really. The majority of bases/fob's overseas have phones for soldiers' use and they're free (but with a time limit). If you do find that he really does need them, your PX should have tons of them. Good luck, and bless you both.
