Run, run EVERYWHERE. If they see you walking or not pushing yourself, you'll get a gig. Weakness is one sure way of getting the attention of a pissed off D.I. Do not take anything they say personally. This is all a GAME. and the point of the game is to make you quit. When you think it is time to quit, that will be your sign you are getting stronger, feed on it. It is up to you to learn and become strong.
The most important thing to graduating is studying. When your friends want to party, you better be studying. Also, be a team player. Help others that are having trouble, and the D.I.'s will see your leadership skills. Basically, you are only as strong as your weakest person.
You should be proud, you are part of something good no matter what anyone says. All I can say is good luck, and represent your department well!

Though I don't live in CA, rather NV, I will give you the opinion of the spouse who also goes through everything a law official does. Don't keep secrets. Don't lie. Let your significant other know when things are bad, even if you cannot be specific. Make time just for the significant other every day, and maybe a "date" weekly.
Police work is hard on the entire family due to the hours, type of work, court, etc. Also, realize that when you socialize outside of the department, there are many people who will shun you and your family because of the work. Don't be surprised one day when you are at a mall or community social event that someone comes up and says, "Hey, you are the SOB who gave me a ticket!."
Burn-out is high. Watch the drinking and other addictive behaviors. Keep friends close and family closer.
And at the academy you will be treated like dirt, like a person with no brain and little common sense. You will be like the pleb at the Air Force Academy, the lowest of low. But once you graduate you will be part of a very exclusive and proud family. Good luck

I am not familiar with LA's academy, but all academies cover the same basics.
You will do lots of running - pt will occur every day. You will have 40+ hours of CA law. You will take at least a 5 day driving course. Minimum of 40 hours of firearms training as well as at least 40 hours of unarmed defensive tactics.
Classroom courses will cover domestic disputes/assaults, child pornography, child abuse, traffic law, criminal law, hazmat training, and various other (and often irrelevant) courses.
During training, keep your mouth shut and try to be invisible. However, the real training starts when you get out on the street. Listen closely and stay alert. Learn from others mistakes (this will save you lots of pain, bruising, and stitches).
Good luck and God bless.
