Take the train. Amtrak will get you there in under five hours and you can relax the whole way. If you have to drive, try taking the Garden State Parkway through New Jersey to the Tappan Zee Bridge north of New York City, then take 684 to 84 up through Connecticut to Massachusetts where you can take the Mass Pike (I-90) straight to Boston. You'll avoid lots of traffic in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts.

You can listen to the traffic reports and decide which of the following methods would be the best: Goethals/Verrazano, Holland Tunnel, Lincoln Tunnel, George Washington Bridge, Tappan Zee Bridge. There is also a longer route in which you would go north (Palisades Pkwy) and then cut across on I90 I believe.

Get an EzPass if you don't have one,
The tappan zee br is the best. 684 to I-84 ... Longer but avoids loads of traffic is the beacon newburg br on I-84 which can take you all the way to the mass pike (I-90), and again go EzPass.

you could go up to the tappan zee bridge and cross the hudson there. could also listen to the traffic reports on am radio on WINS 1010 every 10 mins at :01 ,WBBR 1130 at :05 WCBS 880 at :08 and don't think of trying to cross the GW during rush hour. if traffic sounds bad just stop at the vince lombardi rest area last one on the jersey tpke. and have some bar b que
