In the bible, Jesus's father is Joseph

In the book of Matthew, it says Joseph's father is Jacob, but in the book of Luke it says it's Heli.

Hey Babs:
According to Frederic Louis Godet:
1. That the genealogical register of Luke is that of Heli, the grandfather of Jesus.
2. That this can be nothing else than the genealogy of Jesus through Mary.
But why does not Luke name Mary, and why pass immediately from Jesus to His grandfather?
Ancient sentiment did not comport with the mention of the mother as the genealogical link.
Among the Greeks a man was the son of his father, not of his mother; and among the Jews the adage was:
‘Genus matris non vocatur genus“
The descendant of the mother is not called her descendant.
Luke’s genealogy proves Jesus was, by human birth, a son of David through his natural mother Mary.

lol. You know the scarey thing? I actually knew about that particular contradiction in the bible. Given the answers already, it makes me wonder if Christians actually read their own bible or they wouldn't be asking what you're talking about.

The reason is that the bible was not written by a god, it was written by men who were obviously not in contact with each other to compare notes before publishing. God inspired indeed lol. If it was god inspired, you'd think both of them would have the same name for Joseph's father. I guess it wasn't "divinely inspired" then huh?

Because god doesn't exist.

Could you give me a refference? I'm not sure what you're talking about...

I know that Jacob (renamed "Israel") was Joseph's father... but I've enver heard the name, "Heli"...

Search the net, you will find a lot of information on this. This question has been debated for hundreds of years. What is not in question is the clear testimony of the New Testament that Jesus was the only begotten son of God the Father. In addition, as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon) I have the testimony of latter-day revelation, such as the Book of Mormon, that tells me Jesus Christ is the son of God, and that the New Testament story of his birth, life, death, and resurrection is a historically correct account of events that actually happened.
