It all depends on your definition of "won". This is the issue with all limited wars. War is not meant to be limited. You have to vanquish your foe. All unfair advantages must be exploited. Could we have destroyed all of North Vietnam? Yes. Did we? No. It wouldn't have been a popular move domestically or internationally. So we tried a limited war which always "fail" in the sense that you never really end up with a clear victory. You usually just call it a win and leave after a while. Fighting a war without the full support of the people at home is never a good move.

They lost the Vietnam battle and won the war. That war was only a prelude to the current global trade war.

However, China was the true winner of the Vietnam war.

We lost the battle won the war if that makes sense. Yes in the long run the NVA over ran and took over south Vietnam and we ended up leaving Vietnam from a roof via helicopter skids. However we did stop the spread of Communism in the area thus stopping the domino theory. As for the idiot that said we lost the Korean war we didn't hence why my *** is sitting here right now. ...... Everyone blames the military or politicians for losing the war.

The military beat the crap out of the NVA and Viet Cong, over and over again. There was no military defeat.

The politicians took their cues from the American people, who bought into the anti-war movement, or failed to stand up against it.

It is a fact that the anti-war movement was a Communist ploy, brilliantly executed here in the US, through subversive organizations, agents, and college professors with hidden agendas.

So I blame the American people of that generation for losing the war, and letting themselves get suckered by the enemy pretending to be fighting for the right cause.

I believe we won the battles there thru our use of superior firpower & tactics. I can make this statement due to my fathers tour there in 65 - 66. He was in an Armored Cav unit & there was NO WAY the VC could stand up to that kind of firepower. Our use of pre-positioning units to block & support other units kept those people on the run all the time. So no I didn't exactly answer your question but I did want people to understand WE were the ones kicking a*s*s NOT the way the media always portrayed it.

I imagine that you could find two Americans that believe that we won the VN war. I'm also sure that you could find two Americans that believe in some of the most outlandish stuff you can invent. We are a large and wonderfully diverse group of folks and unique in this world and nothing is beyond belief to some of us. Also, poor education in a subject can lead some of us to believe things that are not at all true.

No, Vietnam was a lost cause. Poll some historians and 99% will concur that America never could have "won." And we didn't stop the spread of Communism--Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam all became Communist.

Well in some respects yes, however, who ever really WINS a war? Everything fought for just changes again anyway. Think about North and South Korea what ever really improved there?
