In the most general sense, a Christian is a person who follows Jesus Christ, acknowledges Him as their savior. There are some who have a more narrow definition, but to me, this is the basic idea.
There's a lot of different versions of Christianity out there-- Catholic, Protestant (Lutheran, Baptist, Episcopal...), and some other denomonations, as well.
There's actually two varieties of Catholic- Roman Catholic and Greek Orthodox. I don't really know the difference, since I'm not Catholic.

Firstly there is a HUGE difference between being a Christian and a Catholic!
Christians-- FOLLOW the word of God,practice EXACTLY what the Bible says concerning using their faith, believe in rejecting evil (verbally), fast, evangelise, do not have images of angels,Jesus etc in Church because the book of Habakkuk, chp 1v 4-5 in the Bible says not to have them!
Catholics-- read manily from a Missel, not neccessarily the Bible- which is wrong and do not preach much about Faith. So saddly many think all Christians are Catholics - I say again, a HUGE difference people!
- i KNOW THIS COZ I WAS A CATHOLIC.

A Catholic is a Christian who belongs to the Roman Catholic or Greek Orthodox Church organization. What defines a Christian is hard to say. Different people and churches have different answers for that.

A Christan is a person who rejects Satan during Baptism in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Catholics are Christan's. They believe in the passing of the Keys to Heaven from Jesus to the Pope (St. Peter) and this created the "Authority" of the Church. The Catholic Church has Seven Sacraments to her flock: Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Marriage, Anointing of the Sick, & Sacrement of Reconcilliation.
Other Christan denominations do not all believe in the Sacraments as the Catholic Church does; especially those which need authority of the Pope (passing powers to Bishops & Priest). These are disolving marriages (Divoce/Annulments), Sacrements of Reconcilliation, Holy Orders, and Eucharistic transfiguration. Each Christain denomination has different views on such Sacrements (if they acknowlege the Sacrement at all).

There are many differences between Christians and Catholics, although some Catholics call themselves Christian. The biggest difference that I can think of would be that fact that Christians are saved by faith and Catholics are saved by works. Also, Christians do not use any intermediaries, such as priests or saints, to talk to God, they just talk to Him. There are many many other differences, but those are the two greatest that come to mind.

VERY generally, a Christian is one who believes that Jesus Christ is the son of God (the Messiah) and that he was crucified as a sacrifice so that God would forgive the rest of us (who believe in Christ) for our sins.
Catholicism is a sub-category of Christianity. I'm not Catholic, so I don't know what exactly separates Catholics from other Christians except their allegiance to the Pope.

There are many well meaning christians in the catholic faith.
The catholic faith denotes universal faith or a worldly organization, however it doesn't give the glory to JESUS first but rather usurps his glory and attempts to bring down into a man made church.
Real christians give all the glory to Christ, and bear witness to his eternal priesthood in heaven.

Christians all believe in Jesus Christ and Catholics are Christians. The thing about Catholics is we're brought up to feel guilt and shame about everything.

A Catholic Christian is one who follows the teaching of the One Holy Catholic Apostolic Church established by Christ and the apostles. All others are Protestants who are protesting the teaching of His Church. This was prophesied in Scriptures:
(2Ti 4:3 DRB) For there shall be a time when they will not endure sound doctrine but, according to their own desires, they will heap to themselves teachers having itching ears:
All Christians hope lies in Christ and His Church because through Him and the Church all who will be saved are in union with his Church even if that union remains imperfect through one's choice to remain outside of that which Christ has established. May we all share in Christ's prayer that we all be one and that all will return to His Church.
