Just go in there with confidence. let them know how much you are expecting to spend. See if you can negotiate. If you feel like it is too much, tell them that the shop across town quoted you 20, 30, or 50 dollars cheaper.
You have to make sure they know that you are prepared to go elsewhere. They are so competitive with other shops in the area that they want your business so you can almost set your own price (within reason).

Getting a tattoo done is not the time to be looking for a 'deal'. It's not like you can take it back if you don't like it, after all. You want it done right, and the price should really be much less of an issue than the quality of the work. Looking around different studios is a good idea, and you can get them to quote you a price while you're there so you'll know what they're going to charge, but personally I'd be looking more at their portfolio than their prices.

Do not shop for price - shop for the artist. Look at portfolios. Also you want a clean, reputable shop.
Shops around here charge by the hour and there is a minimum fee. I always tip my artist as well. This isn't an area you want to go cheap on.

I have three tattoos and each time i got mine i talked the price down but it was unintentionally. Just be confident and be really personable, talk to him/her and don't do it because you feel obligated.
My first two tattoos ended up being free and on the second one they also gave me a t-shirt from the shop as a birthday gift. And on my 3rd i ended up getting 20 bucks off.

Personally, I wouldn't want the best "deal". I'd want the best artist!! If it costs a little more to have it done well, do it. There are some pretty bad artists out there, so be sure to ask around and look at the art that they have done. Better to be safe than sorry!!

price shopping is not the best way to go about getting a tattoo. good tattoos aren't cheap and cheap tattoos aren't good. any place that will haggle with you over price isn't a place i would want to get tattooed at. you need to look at portfolios of artists to see what they can do and realize that you are paying for the talent that the artist has.

Here are things to keep in mind:
- Cost of your design
- Years of experience they have
- How well rated their parlour is
- Cleanliness
The parlour with all of these qualities is the one you go to.
Remember its not just about the money you spend, its about your health and safety.
