Sadly, I would say that most of us don't truly know the difference between Chinese or Japanese food.

Growing up, I would've said I loved Chinese over anything else but since the restaurants that serve chinese food have all gone from nice sit down restaurants to cheap buffett and take outs, I'd have to say I absolutely love and prefer Japanese when it's available. Plus, it's fresher, healthier, and a lot of fun to watch them cook when it's done hibachi style.

I like Chinese cuisine better--There are not Japanese resturants where I live and there are a dozen Chinese ones.

Well, I'm not American, I lived there for a number of years though. I liked American-Chinese much better, it seemed healthier. Japanese was also good but too many dishes were fried, so I didn't regularly ate it.

Japanese...Hands down. I eat mostly nigiri sushi, sushi rolls and sashimi, because they are so simple, fresh and healthy...but sometimes I will indulge in tempura of some kind.
Chinese can be nice, but so much of it is heavier, and greasier, than Japanese. If I do Chinese, I try to keep it light - steamed dumplings, won ton or hot and sour soup, shrimp and snow peas. And I do love Peking Duck!
But sushi wins - I could live on the stuff!

I prefer Japanese, especially if we are talking about traditonal and not "American-Chinese." Real Chinese uses too much offal for my tastes.
Also, I just love the flavors of Japanese food. I could live on sushi, yaki soba, and Mochi ice cream.

I prefer Japanese more--it's lighter and not as greasy. However, there are a thousand Chinese restaurants around here (Atlanta, GA) and they all deliver, so 99% of the time when we order out, we get Chinese. :)
