During the period covered by the excise tax credit, I had DSL. It was provided by AOL, which went through the phone company (Verizon). Separately for nearly all of the covered period, I had long distance with Sprint.

If I could locate the bills from these services, would there be federal excise taxes on each or on just the long distance?

In mid-06, I switched everything to my phone provider (Verizon), but that doesn't help with the record-gathering.

I know I could just claim the standard amount ($50 for my family) but I wondered whether it was worth enough money to try to gather past bills.

Thanks!

The tax that's being refunded is on long distance, so would just be the Sprint bills if that's what you had. Probably not worth the effort, especially at this late date, to gather the bills unless you had huge long distance charges - take the $50.
