Even if he is vaccinated he could have caught cat flu. This would not be the catterys fault as even if they insist on vaccinations it is an airbourne virus, we humans can even carry on our clothes so impossible to say where is came from. Vaccinated cats are protected from full blow flu but can still contract it mildly. Everyone boards animals at there own risk and lots cats in close proximity are prime spreading environment. Dont be accusational but ring cattery and check if their has been a problem with any bugs or viruses while or since he was there, you really cannot blame them if they have and it started after he had been left there. These things have to start somewhere and by time its detected its already spread. Sometimes animals dont exhibit symptoms for days and the culprit is long gone in which case cattery may be glad to be warned they may have the start of something.
He may have been fed different diet to he was used to in cattery - in future his owner could provide his food when she boards him, they may still charge for food but at least she will have peace of mind.
He is bound to have been stressed by whole episode if new experience and like us when we are nervous we get tense knotted tummy. Sometimes its good idea to book them in for dummy overnight stay at chosen cattery/kennels a few weeks before their stay so they will feel more assured you will come back for them. Hopefully he will cope better next time send his own blanket with him so he can smell home.
Dont be tempted to fill him or tempt him with rich food let his tummy knots settle over a few days. Offer his old favourites or maybe light chicken and fish, not milk or cream which is definately not good for him and will give him the runs - offer fresh water only. He is probably relaxing and unwinding after tense 10days so will be sleepy for a few days.
If you dont think it is any of this check him out at vets or do that anyway for peace of mind.
Always thoroughly check out any cattery or kennels before leaving pet, those with nothing to hide will be glad to show you round. You shouldnt need an appointment either as long as you go during the times they expect boarders to arrive or leave. Personal recommendations from friends and relatives who have used them within previous 12mths are the best guide but remember places can deteriorate very quickly, what was good last year may not be so good now. Also ask vets and rescue to point you in right direction although they may not be allowed to recommend.
Hope this helps - good luck.

Hm, does sound like the beginning of an illness.
Is Kitty vaccinated? Most catteries insist on at least basic vaccinations to stop cats catching things from each other.
He's still eating so this isn't so bad, but the diarrhoea isn't good - being upset doesn't usually cause this.
I'd take kitty to the vet if she's had diarrhoea for more than 48 hours, or if there's any blood in it, or if she starts vomiting, or stops eating. Perhaps ask the cattery what their vaccination policy is - if they don't have one, they cat may have caught something - don't take him back there!

Sounds like they didn't properly care for it at the Cattery.
Although there ARE many Catteries who take RESPONSIBLE Ethical care of their cats, unfortunately SOME Catteries seem to come straight from the 13th level of Dante's Hell.
Find out more about this one particular Cattery that your MIL's cat was boarded in for ten days -- HOW do they care for their cats? Who is their vet? How WELL do they keep the cattery clean? WHO do they hire to care for the cats that are boarded there? WHAT and How Often do they feed the cats??? What do other people who have USED this cattery for their cats have to say about this cattery? Are the cats in cages all day or to they get play time? Is someone there at night?
Cats can also catch other cats' illnesses from the Cattery -- AND cats who are healthy can get SICK from being in a poorly maintained and poorly run Cattery.
Ask the Better Business Bureau or your local chamber of commerce about this cattery--they will have complaints on file.
And then PLEASE bring the cat to your Vet for a checkup!! It definitely sounds like your cat had a (or MORE!) bad experience(s) at that Cattery.
Is there a RESPONSIBLE (Licensd, Bonded, good referrals) Cat Sitter in your area? A good one is worth her weight in gold. The cat gets to stay home and is cared for by someone who can come every day or every other day.

my cats were unhappy while in cattery because they missed their routine and freedom. The food intake might mean he just didn't like the food at the cattery. he may be tired cattery's can be quite noisy) if he has a bad tummy maybe there was something going round in the cattery (common like a primary school play yard) just get him checked out and it will probably be a short term bug or something similar. Good luck! x

He may have just picked up an infection there. Even in diligent caring catteries infections can spread very quickly and easily. It's probably worth calling the cattery to see if any other animals have become ill.

it sounds like he is just upset if hes not used to being left somewhere else then its come as a shock to his system, he needs alot of love and attention and not to be overfed as in the human world we call this comfot eating and we all know that could lead to an overweight cat!

I think he is stressed. She should give him a lot of attention and love, his runny tummy is the normal purrrr in cats, maybe she feels it when she touch him because he is enjoying her love.
The other reason because cats purrr is because they feel sick, so with a little bit of attention she should know if her cat is not ok.

when my rabbit came back from a pet farm where we left her for a few days, we found out that she hadnt been eating and pulled out all her chest fur. i think it was a combination of a false pregnanacy and stress from being in a new place away from her family.
so its possible your cat was neglected, or was just missing you.

It sounds like he is stressed out. Give him time to chill out and maybe feed him some dry food to calm his tummy.
