I was once at a science fair as a kid, and I at the science fair, both of whom had completely correct data, who used the information collected differently. They started with the same hypothesis, devised different experiments to test their hypothesis, but one found his hypothesis to be false and the other did not. There was extensive research involved on both sides, and all of their data supported their own final hypothesis. Likewise, you can make an equally strong case using only your data of choice that evolution must be true as you can that evolution can not be true.

I realize I'm turning this R&S question into a philosiphy/science question, but to summarize, I could say this: If we wanted to "prove" that they were Israelites, we could find enough examples to strongly support our theory. But we don't, because our religion is based on faith. If everything were proven for us, we would have had no reason to come to Earth because there would be no room for spiritual growth or improvement.

P.S. - Israel is in Asia!!!

First, DNA does NOT conclusively prove that the Book of Mormon is false. It does not claim taht the Native American Indains are the sole descendants of ONLY the Lamanites.

Next, to prove conclusively that they were NOT descended from the Lamanites, thru DNA, then, to compare, you would need the DNA from Lehi and his family, and DNA from Moroni and the Lamanites of that time. And remember, that the span of time from Lehi, to then Joseph Smith was about 2500 years, give or take. Lotta people passing thru in that time.

Like one LDS scientist said, he would be skeptical, even if the DNA proved that the Book of Mormon was what it claimes.
