There is a guy in a social club I'm in whom I've spoken to a few times. He is a very nice guy. The type everyone would appreciate.
He asked me where my drink is. I said I'm not sure I'm drinking tonight. He asked what I'm drinking. wasn't sure what I wanted so he suggested something. I said sure. he also asked the other guys he was socialising with. I figured it was just a friendly gesture. but never sure what to make of it. he asked about signing up for the summer rollerblading activity and said I should come out to those. I said I hug lamp posts to stop myself, but I enjoy it. after drinks done everyone went home. He said he would see me at the next social event. (I told him the sign ups for the rollerblading would be the next event). just don't quite get the buying drink thing because he wasn't a random stranger.

You're making way too much out of this. The absence of a drink in front of you was just an excuse. Men can think of lots of reasons to say hello, it's just that your not having a drink made it so easy.

The guy likes you, so he spent time chatting. Not much mystery there. Sign up for the roller-blading event and he'll be your own personal lamp post.

Good Luck

The concept of asking a woman if you can buy her a drink is basically an ice-breaker, a conversation starter... it is a lot easier than walking up to a woman and saying... "Look, I have surveyed the entire place and I think that I like you best". By offering you a drink he was trying to say that he kinda likes and was giving you a chance to see if you might want to give him a chance to get to know you... there is nothing more to it than that. If you are receptive to the drink offer then you sit and talk... if you like him it could lead to an actual date... if you don't like him you just say no to his drink offer... it is as old as time.

maybe he likes you! Or he was just socializing since you are in a club and most people have a drink and he didn't see you with one, so he offered.
