In response to my last question, I was called miserable, lonely, ugly, f**khead, and a pillow biter.

Non of these of course are true, and if the intention is to make me angry, it failed pretty badly.

Why are some christians so precious about their faith that when it's foundations are questioned, they resort to silly name calling?

Don't they realise how much of an embarrassment they are to other christians when they do this?

Of course I could say that a person who uses that kind of language probably isn't a Christian, but I don't know for sure.

I could also say that some do it for the same reasons some atheists resort to personal insults.

Chalk it up to this: People are flawed, and do stupid things. You and I are not above reproach. We may not do that, but we do other things that are equally offensive.

I am new to Yahoo Answers. Immediately I noticed the rudeness of many Christians. However, I am not surprised for I have encountered this attitude in many different arenas.

When a response to a question or answer is in the form of a personal attack upon the person who initially presented their particular point of view or question, this plainly indicates unwillingness or an inability to address the issue in a clear and coherent manner. It is of course an inadequate response, and is in fact no response at all.

A personal attack is an intellectual cop out and is an indication that the question or answer cannot be challenged in a reasonable or logical manner. Moreover, it indicates that the one doing the attacking is unsure of his/her own religion. If he were confident in his own ideology, there would be no need to get upset regardless of any opposing view.

The attacker feels threatened that the religion, which he has based his entire life on, may not stand up to scrutiny. The thought of having his theology crumble before his own eyes is more than he can handle, so he lashes out. By lashing out, he diverts attention from the main issue.

On the other hand, a true spiritual nature has no need of dogmas, rules or regulations. Its only guide is genuine and overwhelming compassion for not only its fellow humans, but all sentient beings as well. A true spiritual nature excludes none regardless of creed, denomination, race or politics. It does not argue or quarrel over faith but transcends this sort of negativity. Such individuals are as rare as they are remarkable. This attitude is compatible with true Christianity or with any other genuine religion.

Do not take the attacks personally for it stems from insecurity and intolerance. Just hope that the aggressor will one day find confidence and security within himself and his religion to cease this type of behavior and truly practice what he preaches.

One has to realize that Q&A has created an open season-type environment. Some of the participants will say positive things, and others will not. Others (imposters) will say they are Christians to give others within the faith a bad name.

Name calling can be the result of a few things. 1) They are not capable of intelligently expressing themselves so they result to name calling. 2) The "namecallers" or "stirrers of the pot" use namecalling to make others within Y!Answers angry. Nothing more and nothing less, it has evolved more into a point game.

Yes they are an embarrassment especially since we were told in Paul's letter to the Ephesians 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

I apologize for my brothers and sisters that were rude and insulting. It wasn't very Christ-like.

What's wrong with being a pillow biter? It's the only way I can take it up the a** from my catholic preist without all the nuns hearing what's going on.

Anyway, remember one thing, the christian religion has accounted for more deaths through violence and war than any other religion. Violence and name calling is the only way they can communicate the word. Have you ever read the old testament? Man, this "god" fellow sure did love to kill and he seemed pretty savvy with the name calling as well.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the question that was just posted to the "mentally challenged ath'I'ests". It's a juvenile response, and one used out of desperation. More importantly, though, it completely goes against the Christian beliefs they claim to follow, and if I were on the same path I would not want to be associated with that.

a) why assume they are Christians? If they were, no, they probably don't realize how much of an embarrassment the are, but I have no reason to assume they were Christian.
b) why complain when people are provoked by your deliberately provocative questions? You got what you asked for. Or did you expect all your buddies to answer 'good one dude!' and everyone else not to notice the question?
c) feel free to use the abuse button. abusive answers should not be tolerated. I looked at the question, and some of the answers were abusive. Just because you were trying to be offensive doesn't give people the right to be offensive back.

faith would not substitute one's way of existence. habit and character mirror one's way of existence. however Christian ethics talk of tolerance, goodwill, empathy and lot extra astounding issues with regards to human attitude and behaviour. yet, my experience shows that they are smug, haughty and short tempered different than some who would nicely be credited for their interior reach way of existence and not the religion. From habit to remark on the religion may be, i'm afraid, too a variety of of generalization.

Apparently, those who would do these things are so unsure of their own faith that they were shaken by something you said. In retaliation, they lashed out.

Not very nice for those who profess to spread peace and love, and they certainly only serve to give others a bad name.

I'd take the insults with pride. If you can shake them that easily, you're doing something right.

How do you know, that those who said those vile words were Christians? Are you assuming? Christians do not use such language.

Now, there are those who impersonate Christians because they know that there are gullible people who fall for it.

And they know that there are people like you who wait to see any iota of unChristian-like behavior coming from so called Christians so you can take that inch and run a mile with it.

And you have done just that.
