Elliptical!! I used to own a treadmill and I've seen a major difference in my body since switching. The elliptical tones your entire body, whereas the treadmill just really toned my lower body. I am FINALLY seeing my stomach get flat and also getting some nice definition in my arms!!

The elliptical is better on your joints than a treadmill too.

This is a personal choice, as there are benefits to all three machines. I think that running outside is always better than running on a treadmill - as the natural environment, running in different conditions, going up and down hills, hard and soft ground - all those contribute to a better workout (and you won't get bored). This also goes for cycling - be it road or mountain biking.

So for home use, I would recommend an elliptical trainer. It's a great total body workout (if you get a machine with moveable handles to workout your arms). The movement is completely different from what you might expect on a stationary bike or simply running on a treadmill. Also, there is the added benefit of it being a no-impact workout, so you won't risk injuring your shins / joints like you would if running on a treadmill.

You should try to get a model which allows you to adjust resistance and has a couple of different programs to choose from (fat burning, aerboic, interval etc).

As cardio exercise, all three are great - but you have to consider what makes more sense as a piece of HOME exercise equipment.

Weight bearing exercises allow you to loose more weight.
A bike is not a weight bearing exercise. I like to use treadmills and ellipticals. Treadmills, for me work better with burning calories and staying in shape.. because on elipticals you can get lazy. On tredmills they don't realyl stop and you just keep going. My choice would be the treadmill

Why would you want a treadmill when you can run&walk outside in the fresh air or a bike when you could ride to work every day?

All three are good, so the answer varies with the type of workout that you want, and also can endure. I've used all three over time, but as I got older, I prefer the elliptical.

definitely a treadmill
it has the best effect on your body and you can alter incline/speed so that everyone could use it in the house, whether you want to walk/run/jog/uphill. It is the most versatile of these options

Whatever you will realistically use the most. Also, get one that folds up. I would put bikes last in that choice.

Treadmill
You are standing instead of sitting and you keep a great posture.
