Losing is something that is going to happen to you eventually - and it's perfectly cool to cry when life sucks (just remember that crying is only the first step . .. ).

Now you've had a good cry, sit down (either on your own, or with a parent or good friend or your coach) and try and figure out why you lost. . .did you have a bad day? were you nervous? did you make some mistakes? were you competing at the right level? did you recently move up a level? Did the competition judges have any comments for you?

Now make a list of things you can change to help you do better next time (if you can't think of anything, try asking friends, competitors, coaches, parents, teachers. . .).

Still feeling lousy? Time to chill out and forget about the competition for a while - rent a really funny movie, play a silly game with somebody, go for a run. . .or, my personal favourite, get all of the socks out of your drawer and roll them into balls (one sock inside the other). . .move everything fragile out of the way, put on some of your favorite pop or angry rock music (singing along at the top of your lungs helps) and start throwing socks. . .

Did you do your best? If so you have nothing to be ashamed of. There will ALWAYS be someone better at something than you are (and competitions help you find them and help improve yourself). Don't let the sadness influence you too much, remember that there will be another competition, so step up your game and remember that your opponent will also be training, so you must train extra tough. I understand you feel bad, that will pass,If you start working toward the next time it will pass much easier.

Think of it this way you have had the pleasure of winning alot of times, this time someone that maybe hasn't won before got to feel what you have in the past. In all competions there are winners and losers. You will be in more competions and you will most likely win then. Don't feel bad I'm sure you did your best.

Did only a few people get to go to the state competition? If so, then remind yourself that you got to go in the first place.

Girl, you made it to state! Celebrate that. I mean, you're GOOD if you made it to state!

Realize that this is not personal. It's not based on you or who you are - it's based on one moment in time and how you performed ONE time.

Look at the feedback you were given by the judges. And if they didn't give specific feedback ask for it. What can you do differently next time? How can you improve?

just think about how much better u r at whatever u do then others might b. that is what i do most of the time it helps because there r many others that can't do what u just did. :) so just think of it that way it really should help and as for the others who all won something don't mind them.

You will feel better soon. You only lost one competition; there will be others that you win.
Hey Icemarriedman, did you happen to notice your answer was in second place? Funny coincidence, isn't it? And another thing: loser is spelled with one o, not two.

I know it would be hard if you never really lose, however, maybe it's time for you to rejoice for someone else, maybe they've never won anything. Tears are good for you though because they help you get things into perspective. Sorry for your loss Boo Boo.
