When I was young and the only painting you saw showed Him as white, that's what I believed. Since about high school, I realized he would most likely had been dark colored Middle Eastern in appearance. He was probably at least as dark toned as most current mid-east males and possibly darker. Facial features probably were most likely what would be considered " Jewish" by today's standards. But all in all, the belief in Him is what counts, not any-ones description of his appearance.

There is no getting around the biological fact that Jesus was Semitic, a Jew. And anthropologically and biologically speaking, all Semites are Caucasian, ie, WHITE!

The other two alternatives are:
Mongoloid, as in Chinese, Japanese, most South Pacific early natives, Native Americans from the Inuit to the Tierra del Fuegans or:
*******, as in Africans, Australian Aborigines, several South Pacific islanders.

Oddly enough, some of the darkest-skinned people on earth are from the south of India, yet biologically they are Caucasian, white.

Ain't DNA grand!?

It doesn't really matter what color he was, the main point is that he was God's son. It is a good thing that he was born before photograph times, cause there are probably many people that would reject him cause he was a different color than they were.Today, there are still those who would not listen to him if he was a certain color different than them.I knew of a couple that were recently married which one was white and one was part black, you should have heard the cackling that went on. Some in the church didn't go to the wedding and it had to be held in a different church than the one she went to.

Because each society depicted Jesus as they waned to see him (their own ethnicity). During the Renaissance, many Italian painters created an Italian Jesus, so in the U.S. we only see a white Jesus (in every country you will se a different race for Jesus). So, 'people' assume he was white because that is the only Jesus they see.

I actually asked the same question and received the best answer.....

Because no matter what your religion, Christian or otherwise, people always create their God or gods in their own image. The lean, ascetic Indian Buddha was also changed to a fat, contented Chinese man when Buddhism was brought over to China by missionaries who had come from India.

People can't bear to think of their God as a foreigner

I think that's absolutely true.....

Because that is how the artists portray him to be,
Jesus was a Jew and also an Arab, so I am sure that he is not white white, but maybe that olive skin color. No one knows for sure but it would be the best guess being where he was born. Good luck to you and God bless you

It's a cultural thing; Jesus was Jewish and probably look similar to an Arab; I don't think it really matters how he is pictured or imagined, as long as people believe in Him and His words.

Jesus looked like a Mexican; in Mexico the virgin Mary was seen and she looked like a Mexican woman.

It is because they have been duped into believing that those paintings of him are accurate. They aren't. Jesus was Jewish, and he lived in Middle East.
