I was in the congregations in 1974, and there were no prophecies about it or 84. In 1974, it had been 6000 years since creation, and many, myself included, did make the assumption that this meant something, but the Watchtower never said this.
As for the return of Christ, I assume you only believe the signs of his second coming or presence has been getting fulfilled since 1914, and the WWI or WWII never took place, along with all the other things? When I was young, Christendom claimed that these really were not the fulfillment of the prophesies, and that they were still to come. Now, they say the prophesies are being fulfilled, but it only means that Christ is on his way, or "Coming" and not yet returned, but that does agree with the KJV and an Interlinear Greek Translation of the New Testament. The Greek word that the KJV translates as "coming" in that one and only place, translates it as "presence" in all others. So, which is it? What excuse do you have that your church now agrees that the signs are being fulfilled, but denies they point to Christ return? Yes, every eye will see, just as they saw when he came the first time, but clearly that is not enough. Also, does your faith rely only on physical evidence?

Actually as one of jehovahs witnesses, no one knows when the end will come as i assume you are referring to this by saying the return of jesus.Mark 13: 32 “Concerning that day or the hour nobody knows, neither the angels in heaven nor the Son, but the Father. 33 Keep looking, keep awake, for YOU do not know when the appointed time is.
We cannot nor can anyone say when that time is coming all we can do is follow the signs that are outlined in the bible concernig that time when jesus will act on jehovahs behalf. And there are no excuses, we strictly follow what the bible says if you actually take the time to understand what we believe and why we beleive it you would understand. everything that we beleive comes straight from the bible in all of our publications the scriptures are referenced which cannot be said about all religions.

As one of Jehovah's Witnesses I can assure you that it is only by careful study of the scriptures that the faithful slave class is able to discern prophecy and it is only by Jehovah's Holy Spirit shedding ever increased light that clearer and clearer understanding of certain text is being reached.
Jehovah's people are only human and sometimes interpretation is not fully reached. However, instead of nikpicking, can you tell me how many other religions are there that even bother to study their bibles. What can these other religions tell us all about certain prophecies and their fulfillment?
It has been understood now that through fulfillment of prophecy that we are very close to the end of this wicked system. It was also understood through fulfillment of prophecy that Christ did return as King of Jehovah Gods heavenly kingdom in 1914 and is now ruling as king.At Jehovah God's appointed time Christ will lead the war against this wicked system and paradise will be restored.
Let me just remind you, that the people also mocked Noah and his family.......

I'm NOT JW, but I heard they had stopped prophesying the end of the world as they wouldn't be able to put the chairs back where they got them from next day.
Seriously - they have stopped, mainly because they have failed abysmally in the past.

They keep using they are getting new light on it to cover up the false prophesies, many of their believers are told what to believe and if they challenge a doctrine they could be disfellowshipped and scorned. it's Jesus said the blind can not lead the blind or they both will fall into the pit.
