Anyone can be a good person. The moral standards of the culture determine what is good or bad. Think about some cultures that admired chopping off heads for instance. a person in that culture who had taken more heads than anyone else would be "good" person.
Being good by those standards will not get you eternal life......

God has given each of us a conscience. We are a, "good person" to the extent our actions are aligned with our conscience. If we do this and have a desire to know more truth, God will lead us to it one step at a time.
You're right in that a strong belief, even a strong belief against religion, can create barriers to understanding each other. One doesn't necessarily follow the other, but the tendency is there.

Of course a non believer can be a good person, can be a great person. But it doesn't matter how great a person you are, won't get to heaven unless you believe in Jesus as your lord and savior. God and religion are not the same thing. There is a difference between Religion (Catholic, rules of the church that are made by man) and just having a relationship with God. I love the lord with all that I am, and I respect all others even if they believe or not. God died for them too, and I am sinner just as they are. Good luck with this and God bless you!

Human beings are sinful (Romans 3:23; 6:23). Do you want to know how God views humanity? “As it is written: There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one. Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit. The poison of vipers is on their lips. Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood; ruin and misery mark their ways, and the way of peace they do not know. There is no fear of God before their eyes” (Romans 3:10-18). Every human being on this planet deserves to be thrown into hell at this very moment. Every second we spend alive is only by the grace of God. Even the most terrible misery we could experience on this planet is merciful compared to what we deserve, eternal hell in the lake of fire.

Religious belief is emotional.
Evidence for it is not necessary, and evidence against it is not appropriate.
As for goodness, anybody can be good and anybody can be bad. But it is often the case that people need an imaginary god to keep them honest, but even that doesn't do it.

Yes, I have one person in touch with me he does not believe in God at all, but he is really good human kind, and has really top position in one of the corporate.
Basically he believes in all scintific methods, and he strongly believe after his experience of 40 years, that there is nothing apart from science...

How can someone be a good person if he/she doesn't acknowledge the existence of a higher Being (God)? If someone believes that there is not God, he/she is automatically implying he/she to be the highest, therefore showing pride, egotism and lack of humility. Therefore he/she can not be a good person or at least not better, not even equal to those who acknowledge the existence of God.

Everyone is capable of being a good person, weather they be Catholic, Pagan or Athiest. Religion itself is an outline of the morals we should follow; respect, honesty, responsibility...

My understanding is that a good person is already a believer by deed, although that person may say he does not believe. He is the opposite of those who say they believe but not in deed.

Absolutely. I like all kinds. Then again there are some from all kinds I don't like too.
Anyway, pretty well all the atheists I know are good people. Well, as long as you don't consider eating babies bad, natch.
