Yes, that's what it is. A 75-Ohm digital coaxial connection.

Yes because S/PDIF is a Digital Signal that can be transfered using a Digital Coaxial Cable. The Orange Connector on the back of Your Pre-Amp, Receiver or Computer is dedicated as a Digital Connection and with the right Cable, can be used for S/PDIF.

s/pdif can use either coax or optical.
Both sides need to be the same (optical to optical, coax to coax), otherwise you need some sort of an adaptor.
