I took my son to the doctor a few days ago and the doctor said he had a viral infection and a ear infection. he had bumps all over his face and his nose was bleeding. His ears were also red inside. I don't know if his throat was sore because hes too young to tell me. My neice went with me to take him to the doctor and she forgot to mention the fact that she still had strep and she was holding son and standing close to me. The next morning my throat was hurting really bad.My throats has been hurting really bad for two days and my ears and my teeth and also my head. Today when I got up my head feels a little better and my ears a little better and also my teeth but my throat doesn't feel any better at all. Ive been gargling with salt water alot but it doesnt help. When I swallow it hurts really bad. Its hard to eat because of it. I have been drinking alot of vitamin c. I don't have insurance and can't afford to go to the doctor. Does anyone have any ideas what is wrong with me?

I regret that you found my original answer objectionable.

I wish the best for you and your child.

I hope you are able to to beat what sounds like strep.

If the doctor called it a "virus", but gave antibiotics anyway, then the doctor is either giving antibiotics to treat a possible complication of the virus, or the doctor did not recognize this as strep, which is a bacterial infection and DOES respond to antibiotics.

So, from this internet point of view, it is good that your child is on antibiotics (thanks for the good news) and PERHAPS you can call your child's doctor and ask for a prescription for yourself. It can't hurt to try, and then you would only have to pay for medication and not another doctor's visit.

You are to be commended for putting the health of your child above your own, by paying for his health care before your own.

Still, have you flown on an airplane when they tell you to always put on YOUR oxygen mask before putting on your own?

That's because you might pass out from lack of oxygen while masking your child, and then who would help your child from that point forward?

So, I really do hope that you can find someway to get a prescription without having to pay the added expense for a doctor's visit. Your son needs a healthy mommy.

Best choices to start seeking help are the County Department of Health or Catholic Community Charities.

Feel free to e-mail me directly if you need further support in trying to work through this problem.

Could be a sinus infection. Mix honey and apple cider vinegar; 2 parts honey to 1 vinegar. Every hour, gargle and swallow. It is a natural antibiotic and very good for sore throats.

Don't put it off with gargling and home remedies. People can die from strep so whether you have insurance or not you need to get you and your kid to a doctor today. There are ER clinics open on Sunday. If you don't have the money right now its OK. No hospital can deny you and yours treatment. Good Luck to you and your son.
