It's a kinda loose term that means a wide range of frequencies. But just *how* wide is determined by the application. In an audio amplifier (for example) a bandwidth of 150 KHz (to catch all those higher-order Fourier components and faithfully reproduce such things as drums) might be considered fairly 'broadband'. But a radio receiver capable of detecting signals over a range of 1 MHz at a center frequency of several GHz would be considered fairly 'narrowband'.

Broadband refers to how much bandwidth or space that data can flow through for the Internet. Example. Dial-up like AOL is like a 2 lane highway where broadband is like an 8 lane highway. Since there are more lanes more data can be transferred and that is why it is faster.

put it this way,
a stream would be narrow band carrying less water
a river would be broad band having a higher flow potential.

certain technology telephone lines .ect have smaller and constrictive electronic capacities. while fiber optics or light has faster and broader flowing potential

its usually stated as a type of internet connection. the faster kind that used a dsl and modem.
