Buy a pre-paid T-Mobile SIM card with minutes. They are like $10 for 150minutes on eBay and you get the chip and the number. Make sure your phone is unlocked and will work in the US. Then when you arrive, put the chip in the phone.

No clue. Do you have one already? Why not just get an international plan with your existing phone? If your kids are savvy then it probably won't cost too much to call you. Many cell phone companies let you upgrade to an international plan and then later on you can go back to a domestic one. Call up your customer service and ask them.

you could use payphone to save all the trouble unless you want to get international plan. phones dont work here on sim cards.
