I'm a 26 year-old single girl, and I want a fresh start. Do people recommend Melbourne or Perth as the better suburb? I want to be somewhere with plenty of cafes (that are still open after 5pm!) and good restaurants, things to do, nice walking/riding tracks, and good-looking men! :-)

GO TO MELBOURNE!!!!!!!!!!!

I am currently living in Perth at the moment & i tell ya, it didnt get the nickname "Dullsville" for nothing!
It is a beautiful city & by all means a great place to visit but there is NOTHING to do here! The people are alot ruder than enywhere else in Australia & the drivers suck! Its way behind the rest of Australia in terms of um, EVERYTHING!

Melbourne is full of things to do, culture, cafes etc.
Do yourself a favour & go to Melb's :O) I cant wait to leave im afraid!

Melbourne is safe everywhere all hours you cant beat the city, but if you dont want to stay there, then i would suggest any suburbs near the city...i cant think of a dodgy area in Melbourne to be honest you dont see street gangs or anything like that in Melbourne the furtherest i would recommend is Box Hill, Hawthorn...but you could get closer and stay in Richmond or Brunswick St Kilda can be cheap, but there is no train going there, just trams...and the tram takes roughly 25 mins to get to the city from there

Neither Melbourne nor Perth is a suburb, both are cities about 4000km apart. Melbourne is the capital of the State of Victoria and is the second biggest city in Australia, after Sydney, with about 4million people. Perth is the capital of Western Australia and has about a million people. Both have plenty of cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars nightclubs etc but Melbourne has more than Perth and Sydney has more than Melbourne. Both Melbourne and Perth are famous for their parks and gardens and you will find plenty of places to walk close to the city. There are good-looking men in both cities. Mind you, many of them are gay if they seem to be unattached.

Perth is a great city it is the perfect place to start a family and invest (especially with our boom)and to find a well paid job...well tooo easy, we have the lowest unemployent in the country. But as far as entertainment well maybe Melbourne, Perth is slowly catching up with this but we are not there yet.

I think Melbourne is the right city for you! When you live in a suburb, trains go very often into the centre of the city. For shopping is Melbourne perfect as well! Good luck for your fresh start!
