It does give you more choice. Sometimes DVDs are produced for only one region so you won't be able to
play those DVDs if you do not have an All Regional Dvd
player.

The main stream movies are available for all regions and
it is usually only older movies which are only for one region
so it can depend on your taste of movies.

Don't get the combo if you need to have one or the other repaired you lose both. I have a DVD player and a separate PDR. Personal digital recorder depending on the setting I get anywhere from 80 to over 100 hours of recording time. No tapes no disks to store or worry about and when its full i erase what I don't want and simply keep recording.

Be warned that you can only copy video tapes you made. Commercial VHS tapes and DVDs have copy protection.
