I have a 2004 Accent. It's the 2 door hatchback manual transmission. I got it for $4999 in Folsom Ca on one of those "20 at his price" ads where you normally see "1 or 2 at this price". I paid an extra $1050 to add A/C. I currently have 56,400 miles on the car and only had 1 problem with it. (The little spring popped out of one of the cup holders so it doesn't hold the cups that tight any more.) Other than that I have just changed the oil every 5000 miles and rotated the tires at the same time. (Make sure to change the air filter every 20,000 miles or so too.)
The engine in the car is fine for power since the car is so small. I have heard from a lot of places that the automatics are dogs though. That's why I bought the 5-speed cheapy. Your foot and right hand control how quick the car is. I still get 33-36 on the freeway and 28-30 in town. (That depends on how you drive though.)
I bought the car to be a daily commuter and it has been the best money I ever spent. I had an 83 Nissan Sentra that I put 398,000 miles on and a 92 Sentra SE-R that I put 256,000 miles on. I plan on putting at least 200,000 or so on the Accent before I get something else.
(I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Big Horn Limited with the Hemi and all the extras for my play toy. (It's 20 months old and only has 9,250 miles on it.) I also drove a Peterbilt at work for 14 years for my job truck driving. I put just under 1.7 million miles on the Peterbilt in that time. So I'm not just saying that Hyundai is good because I just started driving last year.

My mother has a 2006 Hyundai Accent and it is an absolutely amazing car. The car has a very impressive interior and a great ride. The performance is typical for this type of car and I get a very impressive 28 MPG in the city real world. Although it is not as fuel efficient as the Yaris or the Fit it is more mainstream then them which is why we chose the Accent.

The 2007 model, yes. I have the hatchback and no complaints at all (700 miles later). Yes it is basic transportation, the hatchback looks very nice in my opinion. Get the SE though, with all the power options it also has ABS and better rims and tires (mine corners like it's on rails). Of course it's a little underpowered, it's an economy car. Very solid, nice interior, roomy, and 32 mpg city with the 5 speed.

The only good point about Hyundai Accent is that it is very cheap. & it is the cheapest among all the Hyundai models.

Hyundai Accent Diesel Variant (CRDi) is worth buying as compared to the petrol version 'coz the petrol version's engine gives a rattling sound post 50,000 kms mark.

If you want a car that doesn't look good, has no power, no comfort, and no room, the Accent is just for you. I say, spend the same amount of money on a better, slightly used car that you might not regret buying a week later.

It depends on what you are looking for in a car.
If you want something cheap to get you from A to B then yes, im sure it will be just fine.
If you want something with reliability, style, speed... well actually anything other than being cheap i would say no, it is not a good car to own.
