Ok.. I've said this before, but Mr. Peepers, or whatever you call your self now- you KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE CHURCH!!!! You say you are an x-LDS person, but most of what you say makes it sound like you have NEVER even attended any meetings, or know anything. We get you are upset about our church, but that isn't our problem. Take a chill pill and read a little about what the church REALLY teaches. You may learn something!!!!
On to the real question: The missionaries are great young men and women who have given up a "normal" life for two years for the guys and 18 months for the girls. There are also senior missionaries who are normally couples, married. Sometimes, it is a widow or widower, but mainly the older ones are companions together. They are grouped in twos sometimes threes and they do go door to door.
Most of the missionaries have either grown up in the church, or have converted to our faith and have chosen to give their time for their beliefs.
I have read all the discussions, and they don't sugar coat things, they put everything plane and simply so people can understand better. They are very knowledgeable about our church, and if they don't know an answer to a question, usually they will find it out for you.
These men and women give up their time with family, friends, school, jobs, most recreational activities to go on a mission. Most are so very happy to be there, and love the cultures and people they meet.
Usually, they spend anywhere from a month to a little over 2 in a training center. There are a few around the world, but the biggest is in Provo, across the lake from me. It's HUGE!!! They spend their time reading the scriptures- not just the Book of Mormon, but the bible also. They take language classes if they are going to a foreign speaking mission, they attend temple services, they have a rec day every week where they get to relax, and on sunday, they go to church services and study with their companions. They pray all the time, and are always listening the the Holy Spirit to guide them. Their whole lives during this time is all about spirituality.
My hubby went to the Peoria, Il. Mission. He really enjoyed it and I think that the young people who go really grow and become more responsible in their lives. They are usually more self-reliant, more self-confident and generally more understanding then others.
I love to have them over!! I always give them cookies or something baked and milk or juice. They will sit and talk and if I have a question, they will always answer it.
All they are doing is trying to spread the gospel that they believe in. They are sweet, loving, kind. They generally show a lot of compassion for people, and do a ton of service while on their missions. Not just for people in our church, but for everyone in the area. They are the first to respond to disasters, and will give their time to help anyone who they can help.

I think they are typically nice young men and women ~ though older men and women can go on missions and some are even married couples.
I kinda feel sorry for them. They are given a list of houses to go to and aren't warned that certain ones are hostile. They aren't given proper information.
For example. My husband comes from a Mormon Family (he left the LDS long time before I can along) Because he is on the rolls, they feel they have the right to come over and bother us. (He will remain as a member until his parents die - he doesn't want to hurt them)
1) After 20 years, they STILL don't consider us married and are suprised when a woman answers the door. We lived in 3 different states and 7 different wards - this is NOT a local issue. No matter how many times we tell them, they refuse to consider our marraige real.
2) We tell them no, and six month later another couple of guys show up, then another couple six months later, then some bishop, some family home teachers, some more missionaries. We tell the 'NO CONTACT' and have even called the stake center and told them and they won't go away. (this only happened in 2 states and 4 wards)
Not once are the new missionaries told that
a) He's got a wife
b) They want no contact and may be hostile.
I feel sorry for them.

nicely the place I stay mormons refused to leave private materials on countless activities and the police had to be spoke of as to do away with them. Now while any form of missionary is seen interior the area the police require them to leave bringing up the previous mormon incidents! Why are you greatly surprised people do in comparison to mormons? learn the bible and christian ideals with the mormon e book and ideology and it is so undemanding as day that mormons basically declare to be christian because of the fact they're afraid to stand up as an completely separate faith! have you ever no longer seen the classified ads with people doing ordinary issues with the line “and that they are mormon”? seems the mormon hierarchy know that they are seen no longer basically as an extremist cult yet additionally so distinctive to general people!

The young men, usually teenagers or in their early twenties, are the mormon's first line of offense in the war between Good and Stupid.
Doctrinally, they are unlearned neophytes, trained in the various ways of salesmenship. The lesson plans are designed to get you to say yes to obvious questions, then drop the bomb, "We can baptize you this Saturday!" Most of the time, they've never read the Book of Mormon until they reach the Missionary Training Center, much less understand it.
The missionaries give you the sugar coated version of the church, but are either unqualified or completely ignorant of doctrinal conflicts to be useful.
But, I have to hand to these guys: they plug away, day after day after day, standing up to rejection and disparagement (so they can continue to claim mormon persecution) looking for that golden conversion. I admire their pluck, courage and determination, but the message is definitely not worth your time, unless you don't mind having you life (and afterlife) planned by old white males in Salt Lake.

They are probably nice people but every religious missionary has an ulterior motive for why they do missionary work and that is to convert which, to me, is not very nice because in order to convert someone you have to disregard the beliefs of those you seek to convert.

What you have to realize is, that they are not able to convert anyone to anything. Only the Holy Spirit can convert anyone. All the missionaries can do is spread the gospel to any who want to hear.

The Mormans use young men to go and knock on doors. These young men have been told very little about what the whole Morman religion is about. They have been deceived.
When they knock on my door, I bring them in and tell them the whole truth about Jesus and the Bible. Then I pray for them to see the true light.

The elders are good people and they are strong in what they believe in. I am an LDS and we tend to get judged on our beliefs rather than our individualistic qualities.

They want me to think they're nice. They want me to think Mormonism is nice. They want me to believe what they tell me about Joseph Smith and magical tablets and American Indians.....it's all really nice...apparently. Too bad I'm too smart to believe in that crap.
