I have never had any problems with my dealer honoring the warranty. I take it in, tell them what I think is wrong, they check and fix whatever needs to be repaired. They have replaced parts they may have been good, but replaced anyhow just to make sure. Only problem is I had one person work on the car who didn't do a very good job. (didn't clean up his mess and the problem wasn't taken care of.. was taken care of later by another technician) Don't believe he works there anymore, but that can happen anywhere.

The catalytic converter is part of the emissions extended defect warranty (in the U.S.), which is usually 7 years/70,000 miles for California specs or 8 years/80,000 miles for federal specs. Check your warranty booklet and check with the dealer (or check online at hyundai's website, in the owner's section).
I'm guessing that the dealer will honor the warranty and do whatever needs to be done. Just tell the dealer what the problem is and ask the dealer to test the catalytic converter for you. Do you have a trouble code for the catalytic converter? If there's a problem, then there is another problem that caused the converter to fail. Don't ever replace a converter that failed too early without finding out what caused it too fail early. There are a lot of possibilities. Otherwise, the new converter will fail soon also.

I haven't had any problems with my Hyundai so far and actually never used the warranty on either Nissan I owned. The only free work I've ever had done on a vehicle was for a recalled part. I'm sure you'll get what needs to be fixed done without any issues.

Yes you need to replace it. It connects your camshafts to your crank shaft. If your belt breaks or stretches your valves can hit the pistons and destroy your engine if its an interference engine. If its not an interference engine your car just wont run. Those repairs wont be covered by warranty because you didn't follow the maintenance schedule so the damage is your fault. Warranty covers manufacturing and assembly defects not maintenance.

I got my 2001 Tiburon used with 10k on it, found a few minor thing wrong and the dealership fixed everything. Also I had someone slam their door into mine, in a parking lot. My dealership had the bodyshop buff out the damage for FREE. Danbury CT dealership treated me great!!!
