You may have to add some oil to the cat's food.
Specially if you are feeding the cat a low cost dry food which is predominantly cereals. Or any food that has no fat in it.
Give him some (third of a can) of people sardines three times a week. That can also help.
Groom the cat by stroking him from head to tail. This will pull out any loose hair and also stimulate his natural oils.
Also a visit to the vet may be in order as well

Take it to the vets. A cat should not suffer from dandruff and if the skin is itchy it means its got a parasite on its skin. This has to be removed to enable normal hair growth and the return to normal skin also.
Good luck! Something for it wont cost too much.

My cat also has this and I have a spray on product that really works! It is prescribed by my vet and it is called Glen Haven Skin and Coat Conditioner. Every time his dry skin flares up I just spray this on and brush it in (you don't have to spray too much) and let it dry. It has a pleasant smell and best of all it really really works. I used it a few days ago actually and his skin has been flake free ever since (and according to the label, I am way past my expiration date) ! I HIGHLY recommend this product! Ask your vet or try looking it up on www.petshed.com or search for it in yahoo or google to see if you can buy it somewhere without a prescription. I hope this helps!

Being honest I've never heard of a cat with dandruff, but it may just be that. If it were me though, I'd get it checked out with a vet, it could be some skin condition. Is it scaley like psoriasis? Is it causing your cat discomfort?

Any good pet store will have supplements with vitamins and fish oil for your cat (yes, they can get dandruff). It's a good idea to have the vet check for ringworm or other infection.
Some of the supplements are kinda pricey-if that's an issue you can try feeding tuna in oil or canned salmon or mackerel 2-3x a week-this worked for one of my cats.

my cat once had this problem. We went to a cat specialist, and she told us about an ancient Egyptian way of stopping it. They mixed together water, salt, vegetable oil and lemon juice and got the cat to drink a few drops a day. They also put a tiny bit of crushe olive into their food once a week. It worked fine for our cat, no more dandruf since we tried it. It took us about 4 months to cure it completely.
