Because the meaning of the question is so often lost on people, here's an explanation: if God CAN make the rock too heavy for him to lift, then that means that God is not omnipotent, since He can't lift the rock. If God CAN'T make the rock too heavy for Him to lift, then He's -also- not omnipotent, since He's unable to create the rock. This paradox is designed to prove the impossibility of omnipotence.

I believe that the only viable argument to this reasoning is that true omnipotence transcends our paltry rules of logic, much as time and space bend as they reach the end of the universe.

However, since I don't believe in God, I don't have to subject myself to the headache of justifying an idea which doesn't fit in my universe. The rest of you, have fun.

Sure he could, and then he'd lift it anyway. What would be the fun of omnipotence if you didn't do impossible things once in awhile?

I think you people are missing the point of absolute power. Can and can't become meaningless terms. If you can actually do anything, then you can create an impossible obstacle and still overcome it. Both can be true simultaneously. Why would it have to make sense to us non-omnipotent people?

If I know I can move a very large rock that most people don't think they can, Of course God can move it. His powers are unlimited, he can always create more ways to move that rock, by thought, leverage.

God must be true to Himself and this would be testing Himself which would mean that God is not sure of His own power and therfore is without complete knowledge of Himself,in this case God would not be God, secondly God operates to perfect sense and this would not be a sensible thing for God to do.

Your question is the same question Satan asked Jesus when he was being tempted by the devil. My answer to your question is the same. This what Jesus said to Satan. "Jesus answered him, 'Again it is written, 'You shall not put the Lord, your God, to the test.'" - Matthew 4,7

May the Lord's peace be with you!
