Stealing is wrong. Both are worse. There is no need to steal a town of the Bible. There are so many people who would just love to give you a towel and the Bible if you just asked. : )

Just go to the desk and ask if you can take that Bible. I am sure the organisation which gives them out to hotels would love to replace it for that purpose. : )

Anyone who can afford an expensive hotel can afford a Bible, which can be obtained legally for 10-20 quid, or much less in a charity shop. So the motive for stealing one is likely to be to remove the Bible's message from circulation.

So, how much is a posh towel worth to a hotel? More, or less than a soul?

While I believe that stealing is stealing, the bibles in hotels are from the Gideons and they are happy for someone to take the Bibles they place in hotel rooms.

Wrap the bible in the towel and take it away.

Stealing might be a crime but I wonder who is worse. The one who steals or the one who puts someone in the temptation of stealing?

I'll echo what the others are saying about the Gideons leaving Bibles as gifts. The Gideons are always placing Bibles in hotels for people who need them, so if you need a Bible, the ones in hotels are there to be taken.

Your misconception is asking which one crosses the line further, when the whole point is to avoid crossing the line. Thou shalt not steal is one of the ten commandments.
But to answer your question differently; the bible is there for you to read, and if you need it, to take with you. It is not the property of the hotel, it is a gift left for those who wish to use it. The towel is the property of the Hotel and should not be taken.

Don't know why people would steal a bible from hotel when you can get bible for free most cases.

I think the hotels are provided with a near unlimited amount of the Gideon's bibles, so that people may take them away.

Hotels may, and often do, charge for towels and bathrobes etc. that are taken away by guests - they typically have guest's credit card details for the purpose of charging 'incidentals' of your stay. In other words, they can charge you after check-out is completed, for mini-bar and taken items. You're safer with some good shampoo, if they provide this.

Good luck! Rob

Actually, my copy of the Gideon's Bible says quite clearly on the fly leaf that it is not free and taking it is theft.

Take the towel if you like.

The Hotel just bills your account for it anyhow.

stealing is stealing ..except where the bible in a hotel is concered. The bibles are there for just that purpose. The Gideons are the primary reason there are bibles in hotels. They would love it if you would take the bible....just call and ask them ...
