If you have not fonud this, it may be helpful:

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=kodak_p712%2Cpanasonic_dmctz3%2Cpanasonic_dmcfz8%2Coly_sp550uz&show=all

Click on "In-depth review" and "Read Owner Opinions" for each camera. Be sure to note that the reviews are many pages long so you don't stop after page one. Check the sample images, also. You can enlarge these to full size images if you click on the file name shown below the picture. You will have to then put your cursor in the white space to the right of the picture and click once. After that, you can pass your cursor over the image and it will turn into a magnifier. Click it as a magnifier once and the image will go to full size and you can really examine the detail or look for artifacts like fringing or noise.

Just looking at the chart, I'd choose the DMC-FZ8. The Olympus is the "hot ticket" now with that whopping 18X zoom, but the dpreview.com review was not overly impressive.

i admire Annette as a midsection call I confident your mom will like it. Isabel Annette sound advantageous. From the record it appears that evidently such as you like names with an ee sound. you may desire to apply a nickname on your mothers call because of the fact the midsection call like Annie. i does no longer use Skye i think of is kinda white trash sounding. I until now enjoyed it, would desire to be that i understand somebody who used it.

I think I would go with one of the Panasonics. They have a tie up with Leica and use wonderful Leica lenses
