my bf broke up with me. and hes like i'm here for you and blahblahblah acting all sweet and he said he'll make sure nothing bad will happen. hes saying all this nice stuff but then hes like i dont think we would ever last and i wanna stay single for awhile.
why is he being extremely sweet and nice but saying we cant go out!? >.<

This is his immature attempt at trying to "let you down easy" and be able to leave, and save face.
In reality, all he had to do is sit you down and tell you the truth. Then there would be no confusion.

guys will say anything to get what they want, not what they need. He gives you mixed messages, because hes allowed, because you let him, you probly never felt like this with another guy, and thats why your confused, you just want to know if you are wasting your time, and your scared that if you ask the questions, he wont give you the answers you want. But why let him do this?, because you dont just like him, its deeper then that. I think you should give it time, and see what happends, and if things dont get better and you still have the same feelings for this guy, then tell him, but wait a while, let it happen on its own.
