Did you know this? Did you know that those committing cowardly acts in the name of MY religion are not being muslims at all? Quran says don't kill innocent people. They do it all the time. Hadith says leave innocent women and children alone. The fundies target markets of women and children shopping for groceries and school supplies. I, for one, have studied it all, for the past 10 years. I've been complimented by Imams for my knowledge, and my Palestinian Arabic speaking step brother even admitted that he had learned from me about this subject and fasting. Are some of you just ignorant that you choose to believe everything bad you hear and ignore anything good? I'm optimistic, not pessimistic, and I look for what there is more of. From what I've learned in my studies, there is far more good. That's what counts.

Jihad, often mistranslated as ‘Holy War’ (a popular phrase from the Crusades), actually means: to strive and endeavour in Allaah’s cause. Hence, jihad can be expressed in a purely peaceful way. The Prophet Muhammad had said that:
“The best jihad is by one who strives against (the evil of) his own self for Allaah, the Might and Majestic.’ (at-Tabarani)
Allaah has said:

“So obey no the disbelievers, but make a great jihad against them (by preaching) with this (Qur’aan). (Qur’aan 25:52)

Likewise, when it becomes necessary to physically fight evil, jihad takes on a martial dimension, the so-called ‘jihad of the sword.’ The Prophet and his followers, like many Israelite Prophets before them, fought wars in self-defence and in order to abolish idolatry, tyranny and oppression. Allaah says:

“And what is wrong with you that you do not fight in the cause of Allaah and for those weak, ill-treated and oppressed among men, women and children whose only cry is: ‘Our Lord! Rescue us from this town whose people are oppressors, and raise for us from You on who will protect, and raise for us from You one who will help!” (Qur’aan 4:75)

Bearing in mind the restless, violent persecution that was inflicted upon Prophet Muhammad and his followers whilst in Makkah (Mecca), it is not difficult to see why God would order their new community in Medinah to prepare and ready themselves to face off the clear and present danger to their fledging Islamic state.

“And make ready against them all you can of (military) power, including steeds of war, to terrify the enemy of Allaah and your enemy and others besides whom you may not know, but whom Allaah does know. And whatever you shall spend in Allaah’s cause shall be repaid to you, and you shall not be treated unjustly. But if they incline towards peace, you too incline to it. And trust in Allaah,. Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.” (Qur’aan 8:61-62)

This right, to possess the means to defend against and ward off any known or unknown external threat, is one which every nation in every age reserves for itself. Even so, regardless of how cruel the enemy, Islaam insists upon a measure response which avoids excessive or unrestrained acts of vengeance.

“And if you punish (your oppressors), then punish them with the like of that which you were afflicted. But if you endure patiently, verily, it is better for the patient ones” (Qur’aan 16:126)

The Prophet Muhammad also forbade behaving treacherously with one’s enemies and the violation of treaties and ceasefires. Hence, the combative jihad of the sword is like a surgical operation: it does not exceed the area of infection.

“And fight in Allaah’s Cause those who fight you, but do not transgress the limits (set by Allaah). Truly, Allaah loves not the transgressors” (Qur’aan 2:190)

Even during open war, the Believers are ordered with compassion and to continue the greater jihad of calling to the Truth:

“And if any of the pagan (enemy) seeks your protection then grant it – in order that he may hear the Word of Allaah – and escort him to where he can be secure. That is because they are men who know not.” (Qur’aan 9:6)

As for non-combatants or civilians, we read:

“Allah does not forbid you to deal justly and kindly, with those who fought not against you on account of religion, nor drove you out of your homes. Verily, Allaah loves those who deal with equality.” (Qur’aan 60:8)

The Prophet expressly forbade Muslim armies from attacking women and children, the sick and elderly, monks and hired labourers. He also outlawed the wanton killing of animals, the burning of crops and vegetation, the polluting the waters and the destruction of homes and places of sanctuary.

“For were it not that Allaah checks one set of people by means of another, monasteries, churches, synagogues and masjid wherein the Name of Allaah is mentioned much would surely have been pulled down.” (Qur’aan 22:40)

Once, when news reached the Prophet that child had been killed in a battle, he exclaimed: ‘What is with some people that the killing today caused them to go so far as to kill children?!’ Someone answered: ‘O Messenger of Allaah! They are but children of polytheist!’ The Prophet replied: ‘Nay! Verily, the best of you are children of polytheist. Do not kill children! (I say again) do not kill children! For every soul is born upon a natural (Islamic) deposition (innocent, monotheistic and good) – until its tongue speaks on its behalf…’ (Ahmad). Also, when the Prophet once passed a fallen idolatress, he denounced her killing, insisting that the woman was not one against whom war was to be fought.

In fact, there exists in Islam a great library of texts clearly forbidding murder whilst extolling the sanctity of human life, ‘life, which Allaah has made sacred’ (Qur’aan 6:151); from the Prophet Muhammad’s dire warning that :’There first cases to be adjudicated against on the Day of Judgement will be those of bloodshed.’ (Bukhari), to his strikingly stark threat that: ‘Whosoever kills one (non-muslim) under contract (of Muslim protection) will never smell the scent of Paradise.’ (Ibn Majah)

“We ordained for the Children of Israel that if anyone killed a person not in retaliation for murder or for villainy in the land, it would be as if they the whole of humanity. And if anyone saved a life, it would be as if they saved the whole of humanity.” (Qur’aan 5:32)

As for suicide bombing, it is forbidden on a number of levels. Firstly, on the crime of suicide itself, the Prophet once warned: Indeed, whoever kills himself will certainly be punished in Hellfire, where he shall dwell in forever.’ (Bukhari & Muslim)

“And do not kill yourselves. Surely Allaah is Most Merciful unto you.” (Qur’aan 4:29)
Suicide attacks also contravene the Islamic principle which states: that which is built upon falsehood itself is falsehood. In other words, the ends cannot justify the means if those means (e.g. self-destruction) are themselves anti-Islamic. Furthermore, suicide attacks almost always result in collective punishments for the wider civilian populous, contravening yet another Islamic principle: fighting evil itself becomes evil if, as a consequence, it leads to more harm.

“And beware the affliction which affects not in particular those of you who do wrong (but may harm innocents as well): And know that Allaah is strict in punishment. (Qur’aan 8:25)

Another headline-grabbing tactic that is unsanctioned by the religion of Islam is the killing of civilian hostages. This is decidedly illegal as it is simultaneously murder, a targeting of non-combatants and a misplacement of responsibility.

“And no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another (each carry their sins alone) (Qur’aan 6:164)

If we define terrorism to be misdeeds of inexcusable and unjustifiable aggression perpetrated against civilians and their interest, then terrorism is no less than an act of war against the Creator, Allaah, and His Final Messenger, Muhammad. And there is a severe punishment to fir such a crime:

“The recompense of those wage war against Allaah and His Messenger and hasten about the earth to make mischief therein is this: they shall be slaughtered, or crucified, or their hands and feel shall be struck off, or they shall be banished from the land. That is their disgrace in this word; and in the Hereafter, theirs is a heavy punishment. (Qur’aan 5:33)

And so, the very notion of ‘Islamic Terrorism’ is exploded as an oxymoron, a clear contradiction in terms. Terrorising defenceless and non-threatening civilian populations, destroying their homes, killing, maiming and taking hostage their peaceful men, women and children, are all criminally sinful and evil acts according to the divine law of Islam.

The phenomenal global growth of Islam is a cause of great concern for many in the West. Steadfast adherence to Islam is readily equated with backwardness and bigotry. Devout Muslims who piously observe their religion are often mocked for being ‘fundamentalist’, banned together with genuine extremists, and frequently suspected of supporting terrorism – even though terrorism as a whole is carried out against Muslims and not by them.

As a matter of fact, under the pretext of coating ‘Islamic Terrorism’ despotic powers will readily employ increasingly cruel terroristic methods to the mercilessly silence cries for freedom, justice and other basic human rights. And as for jihad , its very mention strikes fear and despite in many hearts and minds. Yet, despite its negative press, Islam continues to grow faster than any other way of life through entirely peaceful conversations. So, is the Islamophobia really justified? What is jihad? And what does Islam really say about Terrorism?

As far as the violence in Iraq, yes there is much hype over the bombings, mainly because the media HATES President Bush and will stop at nothing to ensure that the mission in Iraq fails. Idiots around the world would dance in the streets if the U.S. pulls out early, (like we did in Vietnam)and conviently forget about Iraq ( like we did with Vietnam), and a bloodbath would follow (like it did in Vietnam,Laos, and Cambodia). MILLIONS would die in the streets, and you would hear NOTHING about it in the news (like what happened with southeast asia). The media would have completed its socialist agenda, and would have made the deaths of millions of Iraqis 2nd page news, and chaulk it up as a victory. It makes me sick. We owe it to the Iraqi people to stay there as long as it takes until they are safe and free.
98% of the children in Iraq now have polio vaccinations.
Over 8 million school books have been handed out by our troops.
over 200 new schools have been built.
Hospital infrastructure has been overhauled from Saddam's socialist system, and 12 years of U.N. rape and pillage of the oil-for-food program.
Towns in Iraq who have NEVER had electricity or running water now have both. Ever heard of Iraqi Kurdistan? No news from there, because it is all GOOD news. No bombings. some violence, but not much. Economy going through the roof. There is WAY more good than bad happening in Iraq. And by the way, I thought we did a GOOD thing by removing a modern-day Stalin, and shutting down his search for cheap nukes, and new types of poison gas. As far as the WMD thing, I would look no further than Syria. 58 flights of 747 cargo planes shuttled back and forth between Iraq and Syria just before we invaded. WHY?Hmmmm, makes you wonder......
The people of Iraq are now FREE to make their own choices, and the radical Islam element HATES it. Every kingdom an fifedom in the middle east is now put of notice. WHEN the situation in Iraq stabilizes, It will be the strongest, most prosperous nation in the region, and FREE. We can tell Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Kuwait to stick their oil where the sun doesnt shine, and do business with our free and democratic friends in Iraq, without worrying about the money being funneled to terrorist groups.
I lived in Saudi Arabia for 6 months (Desert Storm Volume 1), and while I dont agree with Islam, Generally, they were a pretty peaceful people, except for the ones that wanted to kill me.
I would have to disagree with Islam being a religion of peace. Mohummed grew up on the trade route on the Arabian penninsula between Egypt and India. His tribe's daily living was earned by raiding these merchant caravans and hauling away the spoils. Raiding means kill everyone and take their stuff. Rape the women and kill them, or make them slaves. While he might have slightly revised the killing and made if more 'humane', Islam stillburned its way across the entire region.

What disturbed me about the muslims, was how they were seen celebrating what happened on 9/11. In the USA, they were seen dancing around their tv sets in the open market areas, with the image of the burning towers on the tv. That spoke volumes to me about the 'regular' muslims.

your right from what I have seen most Muslims are honest hard working people like anyone else.

It is that corrupt five or so percent that give the rest a bad name.

Unfortunately its about 90% of Muslims that if they do not support them they passively tolerate them. It is only the few such as yourself that speak out.

In Nazi Germany it only took a small minority to commit atrocities. Most of the population as well as most of Europe stood by and allowed them to do it.

When the Muslim world is ready to not only disagree with terrorism, but to actively fight against it with their words, their money, and their lives then you will see a change.

Until then the fanatics will dictate to the masses.

Hello, 7Proud...:

Yes, Terrorists have hurt the image of Islam to a greater extent than you can imagine.

And murderous attacks against the Innocent, and mosque attacks against differing sects, make the news.

If we went back 1,400 years, the news would carry similar attacks by Muhammad (pbuh) and his marauding bandits against caravans--that would be the same as train robbery today.

And if CBS was covering the Ottomans, it would show about 300,000 Muslims besieging Constantinople, too. Then forced conversion of infidels to Alla--that is written in the Koran.

And when a territory was invaded, they must submit--if they resist you, then lift off their head--God will surely deliver them into your hands.

Those are the texts the Islamists Terrorists use to support their butchery.

Yes, we know Christians forcibly converted infidels, Arians, etc., and that was before the birth of Muhammad. But Jesus said to turn the other cheek if offended.

Believe it or not, Christian violence is why God allowed Islam to surface with mandates in the Koran to do the same thing against Christians. Yes, the Muhammad said to be nice to Christians and Jews as followers of "The Book."

The prophets that the Koran says you must follow--all descendants of Abram--tell of the rise of Islam. There is a page that describes the "The Rise, Decline, and Death of Islam in Bible Prophecy." You will find it most informative.

Blessings and AGAPE love, One-Way

If the schools in Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries will refrain from teaching their children that Islam is the right religion and the others are false. If they stop saying that those who are not Muslims are infidels to the Lord and it is not wrong to kill them maybe you are right.
Terrorism is against the principle of every religion not only Islam. We are not ignorant of the teachings. We do not blame Islam for the wrong doings of the Muslims, we just wonder why terrorrism is so much identified in you when it comes to bombings and killing innocent civilians.
You may say it is against Islam but why are you afraid to police your own kind? What is it in you as people that you allow them to grow in numbers?

Well then moderate Muslims had better start shouting this from the rooftops instead of mostly remaining quiet, like they are now.
They should be taking the most active role in fighting Islamic Fascism, because if they remain dormant, in 20-40 years, there will be a world war over this stuff, and it will take on the form of Muslim-hunting for the most part.

Muslims are quick to point to the violence recorded in the Christian bible and claim that Christianity’s early history was violent, too. But unlike the Bible where some very awful HISTORY is recorded, the violence described in the Qur’an is part of Islamic THEOLOGY. This is a very significant distinction between the two belief systems.

The famous Muslim scholar and “father of modern history” Ibn Khaldun (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibn_Khaldun) states the dichotomy between jihad and defensive warfare thus:

In the Muslim community, the holy war [i.e. jihad] is a religious duty, because of the universalism of the Muslim mission and the obligation to convert everybody to Islam either by persuasion or by force... The other religious groups did not have a universal mission, and the holy war was not a religious duty for them, save only for purposes of defense... They are merely required to establish their religion among their own people. That is why the Israeilites after Moses and Joshua remained unconcerned with royal authority [e.g. a “caliphate”]. Their only concern was to establish their religion [not spread it to the nations]… But Islam is under obligation to gain power over other nations (The Muqudimmah, vol. 1 pg. 473).

Violence now part of the Sharia, Muhammad’s Sunna (4:24, 4:92, 8:69, 24:33, 33:21, 33:50), and the “sword-verses” of the Qur’an (e.g., 9:5, 9:29) is counter to your claims.

I have found Islam to be philosophically indefensible, being internally incoherent or undermining human reason and experience. To better understand Islam as it is understood by others, I suggest you review the following sites:

In your Quran, Mohammad is NEVER in Heaven. He is in Hell delving out horrific punishment to Muslims who supposedly promoted peace. He requires all infidels--anyone who is not a Muslim--to be destroyed. We're not ignorant of what the Quran teaches. Muslims are to take over the world no matter how much killing and violence it takes. Anyone who destroys an infidel has a place in Heaven.

Look, we KNOW that the terrorists who attacked the U.S. and London were Muslims, and we KNOW that Islam isn't a religion that breeds terrorists just because it's Islam, okay? No need to get all bent out of shape about it.

Believe it or not, just because I'm a Christian, that doesn't mean I'm a hateful hypocrite who thinks that everyone who isn't like me in every respect is going to burn in Hell.
