I agree with Freewoman. I wouldn't use any type of potty pad or paper unless you want your dog to learn that it is okay to go inside. One mistake a lot of people make is buying a large crate for a small puppy, thinking they will grow into it. The problem is that, as mentioned, they won't go in their own bed. But if the crate is large enough, they will go on one side and sleep on the other.
Leave your puppy in the crate at night or anytime you are not home. It eliminates the possibility of him getting into things he shouldn't...plants, power cords, shoes, remotes, cell phones, etc. It also teaches him to go outside ONLY.
If you work long hours or there will be no one home for long periods of time, figure out a way to get him outside every 3-4 hours. When you do take him out, don't let him play until he goes....business first, play second.
Good luck!!

You have made a great decision to crate train your puppy. And I agree with the advice you have been given about the inside training pad too. This would tell your puppy it's okay to go inside. I don't think that's what you have in mind.
I have crate trained all of my dogs and never had a training issue. In fact, according to my vet, dogs need a secure place that they know is theirs and they will come to view the crate as their safe house. When home we would leave the door to the crate open, and my dogs would go in their crate to take a nap and be in and out of it all day. When we leave, they go in willingly.
Good choice and good luck.

ok, you received't crate practice. you should pay very close interest to both dogs for some weeks, per chance longer because that both have already stepped ahead the habit of going interior. not in any respect provide them a probability to bypass interior. Take them out commonly adequate so it would want to't ensue, watch them until eventually they pee outdoors, use a word so they affiliate the word with the action, and promises an outstanding variety of praise at the same time as they do what they are meant to. Then once you'll take them outdoors, ask them in the experience that they desire to pee or perhaps if word you employ. "hardly ever had an coincidence" would not count number as homestead-experienced in my opinion, and that i also imagine that a dogs it quite is quite experienced would not bypass in basic terms because yet another did. might want to you're saying someone grow to be bathroom experienced in the experience that they just about continuously used the bathroom? I crate experienced my dogs, and she or he grow to be homestead-experienced in about 2 weeks. In 9 years she has had one coincidence, at the same time as some different person grow to be searching after her and did not do not forget that she necessary to bypass out. i have not used the crate because that she grow to be about 5 months previous. A crate isn't a detention center, dogs are literally not an same as human beings. look again at crate training, because i imagine you've misunderstood what it truly is about, and because that what you've carried out thus far has no longer worked. i does no longer tolerate 2 dogs peeing all around the homestead except they were ill, and may want to bypass to three problem to be certain that it did not ensue.

Most dogs will learn that their crate is their bed, their sleeping place so they will learn soon enough not to soil it. For us it was easy, we would take our pup out around every hour, hour and a half and he would willingly go potty outdoors. Of course he had a few accidents inside the crate, but they after they realize it's their "home", he learned himself. Try newspapers, you may be able to transition him by bringing out newpapers where you would like him to potty. But until you get him completely trained, I personally would recommend using something for them to potty on. Good Luck!

Yeah putting the pee pad in the training area is fine as long as its outside of the crate itself is even better.

it sounds bad but really just lock him up inside of a cage. most dogs refuse to pee or poop inside of their cages. make sure that he cannot get out of his cage though
