Why dont they have a safety switch on power lines that will cut out if in contact with a Yacht etc or big tip trucks?

there is a minimun distance that is supposed to be keep. this distance is supposed to be out of reach of things like you mentioned. but in reality they sum times are not. there is fuses located at transformers to protect lines that drop out to go to distrubution points that will throw in case of emergencys, also there are fuses located on the main lines but it takes a lot to pop one of those. if it was set low enough for what you suggested then there would be a lot of false failures and the consumers down the line would complain.

they do have them, you just don't recognise them because they look so strange
